Jan Vertonghen

i love this grumpy *******.

I loved his reaction!

He is by fair our best defender, his performances haven't been perfect but he is miles ahead of kaboul, vlad and fazio.

Wouldn't you be annoyed if two clowns started ahead of you?

I watched the red card incident a few times more. Vertonghen does not step on the player on the floor, he puts his foot between his legs... but then he nudges the player in the ar.sehole with his right knee.

It is not a big impact, but he does nudge the guy in the ass while he is down, so the player kind of spins around to slap Vertonghen on the bum petulantly and tangles their legs together.

I think Jan was very clever on this one, he gave a little sly nudge to provoke a reaction as he knew the player had just been bundled out of it by 2 other Spurs players.

Sly... with a theatrical fall... leading to a red card. Sounds like Mason against Villa, or Coutinho against Spurs when Dier touched his arm and he fell over.

Last night they said Spurs had the most red cards in the Prem, most unlike us.

Quite a few on here have been calling for the team to get nasty - like the Cheatski's of this world. I don't like it one bit.

we need sly players. soldado and lamela were giving it to them now and again too.

eriksen needs to man up! passive aggressive like verts if it suits him better !

Seems to be working. Our tactic of getting someone from the opposition sent off has lead to us coming from behind twice to win. I'm a little tired of being the "nice guys", there is no consolation in it whilst the top teams win trophies.

Jurgen you have slated cheats in the past, eg Bale's diving. Come on man! Why else do we hold Cheatski in such contempt? Surely you do not want us to acquire that kind of tag?

I watch the game first and foremost to be entertained by the quality of the football. Trophies are worthless unless they are won through pure talent.

Whenever a game is reduced into a contest to determine who is the best at cheating I lose interest. For me everything went flat when Ramirez was sent off and I have every sympathy with Steve Bruce. Vertonghen's over-reaction was frankly embarrassing.

Its good to see us be a bit more street wise. Against City I thought that was the key difference in the game. Kompany knew when to make a foul to break up our play, get at the ref etc. Since we've started to hustle. Like or not, we need some fire and spice, you need to be 'streetwise' to turn games in your favour.

The celebration was right in front of us. Didnt notice this from Vertonghen as I was busy giving it loads to the Hull fans at the time.
Saw this last night on the Sky highlights, loved his joy here..and then the panic in his eyes seconds later when that fan got on the pitch to join in.
I love seeing the players celebrate like this. I want to see what it means to them, but it sure as f#ck means loads to me

It wasn't a serious comment to be honest. I do agree it was poor from Vertonghen. That said, I want us to complain more when things go against us, it does us no favours just taking it in stride. I don't want to see Spurs players play act or dive, but by all means surround the ref like the top clubs do and Poch should highlight it when we get bad decisions like Fergie used to and like Wenger and Mourinho do now.

I'm watching it again, just noticed when Kane went up for a header with Thudd... his fingers brushed Thudd's mouth/chin area and Thudd writhed on the floor in agony holding his forehead/eyes. Sly.
