I liked Erik Lamela before it was cool

On Sky Sports News they just had a group of school kids (about 11 or 12 I'd say) attempting to recreate Lamelas goal in a PE hall. The winner got an autographed picture of SSN presenter Natalie Sawyer. Don't think the autograph will be much good once the lad who won it has spunked his load over it!

Good to see this goal get a great reception though!

Adrian Durham on Talksport saying it was an alright goal and the bigger issue is that he has no right foot ;) as "proof" he cites the goal as evidence!

hes now a superstar. like he should have been hailed as last year. He should have been built around last year. Hopefully Poch knows of the megastar he has on his hands. Lamela knows technically he's the best at the club, lets hope he sees ways he can improve and become an even bigger star, sadly it wont be with us.

Lol for real?

You can argue that Durham is correct. I find it unfathomable that a player simply refuses to hit a ball with his wrong foot. A swinger at times is effective and more so than trying to get it to your correct foot which isn't possible.

Lamela if he had even an inkling of a right foot would I've hit that with his right.

I am still a little worried over Pochettino's lack of reaction to the goal. Has anything come out about it.

Looking back at the replays he looked a tad p#ssed off, even though he had scored, I am wondering whether he was peeved with him trying such a thing while the game was in the balance?

he said he doesnt show emotion. he only shows emotion at home and in the bedroom. was a cracking interview.

he hit one with his right foot for his second goal. He did it because he knew he'd score doing it. who cares anyway. I've never seen Robben use his right foot

haha yeah buddy, build the team around an injured young player who couldn't speak English

I'll think I'll wait until he's done a bit more, like potentially score in the Premier League before thinking he's at superstar/megastar level. Like the player a lot, but your post here is ridiculous

he was a 30m signing, our record ever signing coming off the back of being the best player in Serie A and one of the most highly rated young players in world football. Of corse we should have built our team round him. Instead AVB wanted to "ease" him in. This is a manager who'd probably sign Ronaldo and probably try and ****ing ease him in.

Fair play for Lamela for staying in the summer, he should have got so much better after how the club treated him, just glad we now have a great manager who believes in him and knows the star he has on his hands.

Yea, for this week anyway, lamela is not only the talk of English football but he's being mentioned on non football related programmes, you've got radio one devoting whole sections on recreating his goal from last night. He has to play the next game, his confidence should be ski high, rightly or wrongly he is big sh1t at the moment.

He was injured and in the games he played in he looked timid and nervous. I don't think AVB can be criticized for his approach in this case and even with slowly being introduced the guy was still injured for most of the season. I don't think the club treated him badly in any shape or form, Lamela said himself that he was happy with the club's treatment of him unless I'm mistaken. It's a ridiculous argument to say the team should have been built around him.

Maradona scored more goals in his career with his head than his right foot. Being 1-footed doesn't matter if it's a good foot.

I disagree, it was showboating. It was audacious, it was brilliant....but it was also lucky. No way was he trying to pick out the top corner, no way did he weight it that carefully. I could have hit a curler with my right towards the top corner (I'm also left footed but have never played at a significant level) so I am in not doubt he could have hit a better placed shot with his right.

It's like a back heel pass. Often it's unnecessary but looks cool, looks confident. It gets fans on your side, it gets sponsors on your boots. It gets clips on SkySports and likes ok YouTube.

Anyway, Durhams just up to his usual trick of adopting a controversial viewpoint. He's just doing his job. He also went on about how the focus should be a hat trick about a young English striker but instead we are talking about this.

But for us spurs fans there's a bigger significance. We have a player who is skilled and confident enough to try this. Our clubs profile is up.

If it hadn't have come off then he would have been slated for making the wrong decision. But it did, so it was the right choice.

Seriously?

Lamela did not do that because he has no right foot (and as a few other posters mention, why is that an issue).

He hit that because he had the time/skill and audacity to do it, despite the immense pressure (and negativity) he has faced, despite having had a bad last game and it still being a pivotal point of time in the game.

People constantly harp on this board about needing players with bottle, he would have known how much **** he would take if that had not gone in, took tons of bottle to go for it

Two things...

The rabonar has overshadowed the fantastic second goal.

Did you see (I think Davies) after the goal? The hands on the head (I imagine amazement) - reminded me of Hudd when (I think Bale scored a Worlder).

vert and davies' reactions were amazing  - hands on heads and even took to twitter afterwards, like many other pros. But the best reaction was definitely the opposing defender, was just hilarious :ross:

Hahaha Danny Higgnbotham!!!

"lamelas goal. I remember trying it at training at Southampton and ended up tearing my medial. Know your strengths. Head it and kick it far
