Harry Kane MBE

Last season he was acting on instinct, this season he is thinking too much and has become desperate to score. You have to look at our failure to secure a second striker on this one - if we had another front man Kane would have been dropped by now and that would have given him an opportunity to re-evaluate his game. Atm we have to play him and mentally he clearly isn't right. I believe he will come good - scoring so many goals last season proves he can do it.

I think he just needs a rest. Refresh, come back stronger. Its all there still. We are creating less. And the lucky ricochets that were flying in are flying into the keepers arms. Nothing to worry about, apart from over playing the lad.

I think if you were to look back at his goals from last season it would be hard to make a case for the majority being on instinct tbh

Have to say thought Kane was very good in parts yesterday, his hold up play was superb at times. However on at least 4/5 occasions he didnt move the ball on quickly enough, he should have been gonaded out by his teammates for not releasing the ball. Has got a bit greedy and certainly at the minute is looking a bit fatigued but he could easily help himself and the team by learning when to pass and when to run at players!

Harry, if you're reading this thread, please ignore all these misguided posters banging on and on about you being greedy. It's the same greed that got you a hatful of goals last season and they loved you for it. Sooner or later it'll come good for you again this season so please carry on regardless.

Great post otherwise Spurmac.

greed is good but losing possession is not.
harry kane needs good advice, support and some shielding, I hope poch can help him as it looks like he isn't getting any help.

Teams are crowding him out at the edge of the box giving him limited options. They jostle him but are frightened to tackle and give away a free kick because of Eriksen. Thought it worked well yesterday when Clinton came inside to support him.

He needs a rest not only for him to recover but for him to refocus. He is currently not helping us gain points.

So when he chased what looked like a lost cause against Emirates Marketing Project and nicked it off Ottamendi that won the free kick from which Toby's goal came he didn't help us gain points? Or do you really mean he's not scoring many goals? His work rate, creativity and vision cause opposition teams lots of problems. That helps us win points.

Kane is working as part of a the team that's getting us points. He is working his Arse off even if his finishing isn't clicking

If you look at yesterday's game he had two shots!!! njie had one, walker had one and Alli had one blocked

Eriksen had none and neither did Lamella or Demebele yet they all played decent games (Lamella was a nut headless at times)

We need them all to contribute and share the burden which they did so well last year.

Im convinced that Kane will refine his touch In front of goal and with his work rate he will be scoring plenty.

I'm also convinced that he would love to be able to drop back sometimes into a position where he can use his guile and work rate to support an out and out striker (or someone he can interchange with).

Not to nitpick but I remember a blocked shot from Eriksen and a shot wide from Dembele;).

That aside I think the main concern with Kane is not the shots or lack thereof, it is the decision making. Those two shots you are alluding to were certainly the correct choice by Kane at the time, as indeed was the setup for Njie for the one he tried with the outside of his boot. However his choices on when to shoot or pass have not always been right this season and it is something he needs to sort out quickly.
The young man has a lot of focus on him, lots of pressure, but the one thing he can control is when he shoots and when he passes and honestly now he is making some poor choices. A few goals will help ease the pressure but he needs to bin the shoot-on-sight policy. It's not helping him.

Appreciate many will agree with you but I remain unconvinced. Stats posted a couple of weeks back showed that Kane is taking exactly the same number of shots per game this season as he was last. The only difference being this time round they're just not going in.

I just wish people would stop and think about it before arguing Kane should pass more. Penalty areas are so crowded these days and defences so quick to close down, the odds are overwhelming that ANY pass in or around the box is going to be intercepted. Hell, even in a breakaway where it's say two on two, the chances of a pass being successfully converted are still relatively small. Soldado last season anyone?

So no, Kane must continue exactly as he has been doing. More often than not it's going to represent our best chance of scoring.

Without pointing fingers I think there's a lot of over analysing of Kanes game and simple cliches being offered as excuses which don't really tie in with what we're seeing - he's playing well, mostly, and doing what he done last season asides from hitting the back of the net - a few of his chances go in and no ones complaining about his general/overall game or his finishing and tiredness

@Rorsach the issue Kane is having is he is taking one touch too many when looking at passing and invariably he is being shut down. I honestly don't remember his link up play last season as he was constantly shooting then and scoring almost one in two. This year when he is shooting as much but not scoring we focus on other aspects more

He is still incredibly young too an whilst he is clearly our first choice it's scary to think of our lack of options to cover/replace/back him up

A lot of the guys I go with have started the Kane is a number 10 debate and I agree with that in that he can play there effectively. When he has dropped back there he has passed the ball quicker too so why he does t do that as a number 9 I don't know

Apologies that this is a bit garbled but I'm a massive fan in Kane and think if he hadn't been so good last season he would t have the expectations on him now and he would still have room to develop further. He is in effect a victim of his own success
