If we managed our money better we could get a 25m striker.
In the same time we wasted 81m on 2nd tier strikers, United spend under 80m on 9 strikers. Their philosophy was to spend big on the main striker (Berbatov, RVP) and then spend 5 or 6m on talented young player (occasionally fudging up). But they haven't gone near a mid range 8 - 20m striker in the last 7 years.

Yes, but for some strange reason United are able to attract a higher quality of player than we are.

You are wanting us to have spent a large amount of money on players that would never have come to us.

a 25 mill rated striker comes with massive wage demands...Berbatov got over 100k a week when he signed for Utd in 2008, and RVP is on nearly 250k a week after signing this summer

There is no way we can go down that road yet.

plus there is the success aspect. Berbatov left us to join Utd in order to win trophies, play CL football. RVP did the same by leaving Arse. What 25 mill rated striker is going to join Tottenham, with one CL campaign in its history, lack of trophy success, and also settle with a salary less than 100k a week????

if we are somehow lucky, we might be able to persuade someone like Damaio to join us for around 20 mill. Brazilian, young, would fit in with our wage structure, and AVB's influence might just persuade him to join us. But i reckon thats as good as it will get in terms of a more than decent striker

Leandro would join tomorrow if we paid his club the money he is worth.
Jovetic is very gettable as well. We wouldn't have a problem unlocking defences with him on board.

If were willing to pay the fees of top players, they are out there and within our wage bracket.

I'm really not sold on Leandro. Plus with the Brazil world cup coming up the player wants to know he's going to be first choice, which he wouldn't be from the off.

Jovetic would be outside our wage structure. Plus his club are currently refusing to listen to offers at £20m, so he'll more likely be £30m.

Jovetic is a second striker, average goalscoring record, so who is going to be the main striker? Damaio? that means paying almost 50 mill for both Jovetic and Damiao.

Daniel+Levy

Problem is we can't spend £25 million AND maintain our current spend in wages, it would have to come down first.

That's the same man that bought Keane, Defoe,Crouch and Pav for 55m within 12 months.
A year later we were playing one up front.

and 4 years ago we werent on the brink of building a 300 mill stadium which needs to be financed somehow

plus, none of those strikers were earning more than 50-60k a week

times have changed

I find it literally baffling how you can see it that way. I see it as him backing his managers with a hell of a lot of money and not picking the team but letting the manager actually do his job. Absolutely mind blowing that is a dig at Levy.

Its not a dig at Levy.
It was a response at how we are not gonna pay 50m and 200k wages for 2 strikers.
He paid 55m and 200k wages for 4 strikers. And 3 of them were routinely left on the bench.

Adebayor is a £20m + striker who we managed to get for £5 million only because of special circumstances. The fact that he has, at least thus far this season, been brick doesn't alter that fact.

I suspect that we probably have offered Internacional what Damiao is worth. The problem is that they want considerably more than he is worth.

Jovetic gettable? That's highly debatable. And if he was for sale, we would face huge competition from a raft of clubs with greater resources than us.

Sounded like a dig, so apologies for that. I'll say again though, Levy is not picking the team, he is buying who our managers want, its not his fault 3 are left on the bench.

We used to spend big on average players, now we spend less on better players. I'm happy.

Wanyama is a seriously good player gonna be a huge player in the future rumoured to be on wengers wish list. Can I assume you're a Celtic fan with your name?

Yes I am a Celtic man but Spurs have always been my English team, first saw them when they played Celtic way back in ' 67 !

Hooper would be a brilliant signing i think, great finisher,

As for Wanyama, what a signing that would be !

I think there is such a pro AVB sentiment on here that if AVB wanted to bring Rasiak and Fraizer Campbell back, some of you would be all for it.

Sarcasm doesn't come over well when written down. If it wasn't sarcastic then I think you need to visit the AVB thread, you might revise your opinion.

On Hooper i've never seen him play, sounds like a pretty underwhelming signing but you never know.

How do you know how much Leandro is worth?

We've surely scouted the hell out of him, I'm guessing AVB has seen him as well considering he spent a substantial amount of time scouting players in South America before he signed for us. My guess would be that the club has a much better understanding of how much he's actually worth than you do, although everyone are working with limited information of course.

Cheers for the input, always nice to the get the opinion of someone who has seen these players a lot. Even though you're going to be a tad biased :)

How would you compare Hooper to Jelavic if you don't mind?
