We've surely scouted the hell out of him, I'm guessing AVB has seen him as well considering he spent a substantial amount of time scouting players in South America before he signed for us. My guess would be that the club has a much better understanding of how much he's actually worth than you do, although everyone are working with limited information of course.



Cheers for the input, always nice to the get the opinion of someone who has seen these players a lot. Even though you're going to be a tad biased :)

Jelavic is a dud ! but that's because he played for the other mob ! ;)

Good player though but seems to have hit the wall as far as scoring goes, 2 in 17 I think,

Hooper will score goals for Spurs, definitely, not that we want to lose him of course, :(

I write the English press releases for Rapid Vienna, and at the time Everton signed Jelavic I thought there was no way he'd cut it in the premier league. I was pretty shocked at how well he started but now it seems he's returning to type. At Rapid he was behind Jimmy Hoffer and Stefan Maierhofer, who failed at Napoli and Wolves respectively (although Hoffer has made a bit more of an impact at Eintracht Frankfurt).

As for Hooper, we have to take a punt on somebody. We need an extra body up front and I'd be happy enough to give him a chance. If AVB thinks he can do the business then why not...
 
Oh and if anyone is interested, it might be half worth keeping an eye on Deni Alar. He's a young Rapid striker, came from relegated Kapfenberg last summer and is starting to look the part (although i'd probably look decent in the Austrian Bundesliga).

Spurs expected to bid for Celtic's star striker Gary Hooper as the race to win his signature heats up

AS Norwich put together a third bid for the Celtic ace, it looks like Spurs gaffer Andre Villas-Boas also has his eyes on the striker.

GARY HOOPER was standing by his phone last night for a deadline-busting call from boyhood heroes Spurs.

As Norwich put together a third bid for the Celtic striker, Record Sport understands Hooper’s London-based adviser expects Spurs to enter the race before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.

Life-long Tottenham fan Hooper has been informed of the dramatic development and is excited by the possibility of a return to the club which rejected him as a youngster.

Spurs gaffer Andre Villas-Boas insisted at the weekend he was unlikely to add to his squad during the January sales, despite a manpower crisis which left him without a single fit recognised striker for Sunday’s shock FA Cup defeat at Leeds.

But less than 24 hours later Villas-Boas was busy tying up a deal to fast-track the arrival of midfielder Lewis Holtby from Schalke – and now Hooper’s camp believe their man might be next.

The 25-year-old would certainly prefer to head to North London than Norwich.

But while he waits to discover if Villas-Boas is a serious suitor or not, Carrow Road boss Chris Hughton is ready to show Celtic the colour of his money with a new and improved offer following two failed bids.

But this time the Canaries will have to get serious if they are to tempt Celtic into selling their star striker so close to next month’s mouth-watering Champions League showdown with Juventus.

Sources close to the Norfolk club remain adamant their first two offers amounted to £5million and £6m. But it’s understood much of that money was made up by potential add-ons which is why Celtic found the bids so easy to dismiss.

This time the package is likely to come in at around the £8m mark but Norwich will have to put at least £6m of it down in hard cash to have any chance of getting Celtic around the table.

Sporting Lisbon’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Swansea’s Danny Graham are also on Hughton’s list of attacking targets but with the sums involved escalating to over £10m for each, agreeing a price for Hooper remains a more realistic proposition.

Norwich are desperate to add firepower to their squad with the club needing a boost after being dumped out of the FA Cup by non-League Luton on Saturday.

City’s new offer would smash their transfer record and is again expected to comprise a lower initial cash bid before rising to as much as £8m in the end.

Hughton isn’t giving up on the 25-year-old but said: “It’s difficult at the moment.

“People on the outside think it’s easy to bring in the players you want. It doesn’t work that way.

“If you look at the strikers who have come in, you must look at the circumstances.

“That’s generally big fees and big salaries.”

Meanwhile, Ivory Coast left-back Siaka Tiene has joined the list of potential Celtic recruits before the transfer window closes.

The 30-year-old, who can also play in an advanced position, has been frozen-out at Paris St Germain.

Tiene, currently on African Nations Cup duty, has six months of his deal to run but would be allowed to quit the French capital now.

Sources in France last night claimed QPR and Turks Besiktas were involved in a race with the SPL champs.

Read online that AVB going to the game. Saw on Newsnow that multiple tabloids had jumped on the bandwagon. Then 'leaks' that we are definitely interested.

AVB has lied about watching and being interested in signing players in the past.... He's not your typical 'Honest 'arry'
 
two solid strikers really, but really only two solid strikers for a team pushing for premier league mid-table (imho).. i like what hughton is doing at norwich.
