Gareth Bale

Re: Bale's Dive Today

The thing that makes me laugh the most is when people start carping on about what 'pansy' or a 'wuss' Bale is, or how he needs to 'man up' and all that other crap. Let's face it, 99% of the people who post that rubbish have absolutely no clue whatsoever what it's like to be an elite athlete, compete at that level or get tacoted by the likes of Charlie Adam. The funniest of all are the people who claim all he had to do was stay on his feet, control the ball properly and he could've slotted the ball into an empty net!!! Superb! You could not make it up.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

Yep it's garbage how some people can't take off their Spurs glasses for a moment.

Makes me worry that if we ever have a Terry/Suarez-esque case, we'll have the same tarnished image that those clubs do.

:ross:

geezer, if this is all you have to worry about then you have a fantastic life and I'm happy for you!

Re: Bale's Dive Today

...so many questions to ask...

I'll try a few.

1) Do you play the wonderful game?
2) Have you ever taken any form of hard physical contact in a game/match of some sort?
3) Do you use the word 'bitch' on a daily basis? if so, enlighten me as to it's context in your vocabulary?

Thanking you in advance.

1 & 2) I have played multiple contact sports (including football), but i can admit that I am indeed a bitch and I decided to stick with playing tennis
3) I guess the term 'bitch' is something of an 'americanism' (too many movies) meaning weakling, shirker of responsibility, wuss, coward, weasel, i could go on..

I confess to knowing full-well 'bitch' in this context, i just shudder anytime I hear it being used as I think it's, well, er, weak!!!!!

Fair dos on the games. I still play twice a week despite my age and increasing weight, and I tell you, I am the WORST. If a defender gets into me early, I give it the full Di Canio and make absolutely sure they know I won't let it happen again with a stream of back-chat. Works well with younger kids who don't know. I play fairly, hrd but fair, and if someone is past me I don't try to take them out. If people take me out, I am the worst whinger ever!!!!! But those whippersnappers continue to underestimate me LOL...at their peril!

Tennis...I remember winning the cup in 81 and not too long after queuing up @ Wimbledon to cheer on McEnroe against that smarmy taco Conners. I was OK once the rallies got going but could never, ever get my serve in gear. Now I would be pathetic!

Re: Bale's Dive Today

I would go further and say that the dive is cheating too. Jumping out of the way of a tackle is the way to avoid it, not letting your legs collapse under you.

Look at the gif and you'll see that the leg he would have had to plant down hard in order to jump is the one that would have got clattered.

If there had been contact, trying to jump would have just planted his standing leg more and exacerbated any potential injury.

Debatable. He could have left the ground from his other foot in the stride previous if he wanted. For me he was looking and waiting for the contact in order to get the keeper sent off. The keeper had a moment of clarity and Bale looked like a taco.

Generally speaking, if every player starts diving like this when they expect contact then the game would become laughable.

.

A fine point, but equally, the game is simply not comprised of too many players with the speed, power, talent and potential match-winning skill of a Gareth Bale, thus most players don't ever have to think about avoiding the likes of Charlie Adam trying to end their careers...it wasn't his finest moment at the weekend for sure, but if I have the choice of him jumping out/falling over to avoid getting what he feel 'might' turn out to be a massive clattering versus taking one "manfully" and ending up out for 6 months, then I know which I'll take every single time.

The game is already laughable, especially when people start pushing eachother in the chest, seconds later falling to the ground and rolling like they've been shot

Only way to eradicate this is flimflam - video analysis (post-game) and subsequent bans. Diving / Acting = 1 game ban and club fine (forcing clubs to communicate with their player the improtance of NOT being a qunt). Second dive - 3 game ban. Third dive = 5 games, etc.

Individual players cannot have a pass to dive because they are categorised as flair players or speed merchants What's good for the goose is blah blah. The argument that he will be out for 6 months is not realistic. Not every challenge results in an injury. Trying to hurdle the challenge is the correct course for Bale here IMHO.

I guess in this instance the choice is whether Bale is avoiding injury or waiting for contact to get the keeper a red and for me it is the later.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

The previous stride was the one with which he touched the ball. He could have jumped instead, but we would all have been calling him a fanny for not going for the ball.

There's no way I can see that he could have taken the ball and jumped the tackle.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

to jump would mean he'd have to plant his left leg after touching the ball, that was the very thing he would have been trying to avoid. If his legs planted and he gets hit, then serious injury, if its in the air and it gets hit then not so much damage will be done.

He could have nicked the ball with his left leg and then simultaneously jumped off from his right foot, but you try doing that, it would take some coordination and mean he'd end up doing an even more dramatic "dive".

Anyway, someone said he claimed for the free kick afterwards, if he did do that then I've no respect for him, that = cheating, not just avoiding contact.

I agree with this. Self preservation is a strong human instinct. Guzan's leg looked like he was going to clatter Bale and he withdrew from the challenge at the last minute.

If Bale claimed for a free kick then this would be cheating - not the avoidance of a potential of a career threatening injury.

Trying to get Guzan sent off? Not a chance. This is Gareth Bale the footballer not Christian Bale in 'American Psycho' ...

Re: Bale's Dive Today

not really pertinent in this case but it should be remembered that there doesn't need to be contact for it to be a foul

Re: Bale's Dive Today

Are people honestly still trying to stick up for him? It was a dive plain and simple an act of cheating something that if an opposition player did people would call for his head to roll lot of posters on here sounding like Liverpool and arsenal fans the inability to criticise anything to do with their own club. I don't get that just say it how it is regardless of whether they play for your team or not.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

I was playing rugby today and could sense I was going to get tackled HARD so I just threw the ball to the opposing player.

See what I did there?

Re: Bale's Dive Today

The hypocrisy in this thread is breathtaking! I will not argue that Bale gets kicked a lot, the evidence is in this thread, but Luis Suarez got kicked all over the park by Huth yesterday, did that cut him any slack in this thread? Did it fudge!

You won't find one non Spurs fan who will defend Bale or buy any excuses that are trotted out in this thread.

It's amazing i agree, there are some who need to take off the Spurs tinted glasses and be honest. It was a dive and its not the first time he has done it.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

In other news, Wales are playing Scotland in the internationals. Can we have a whip around and see if we can raise enough cash to put a hit out on Charlie Adam before the prick injures Bale again.

dont be silly, Bale has to man up and take any wild cynical challenge made by Adam
