Gareth Bale

Re: Bale's Dive Today

I'm watching some NFL and it just makes footballs seem even more pathetic about 'avoiding injury' dives.

Brett Favre started 321 consecutive NFL games over 19 seasons. In the 2009 playoffs, the Saints put a bounty on him, offering $10,000 to the player who injured him and knocked him out of the game. If anyone saw that game and saw the beating he took from constant late/illegal hits, it was incredible how he kept getting back up and playing on. It's an extreme example, but when you play a mans game you need to act like a man and get on with it and leave it to the referees to protect you.

The NFL is a different sport. I know an ex-NFL centre...retired a few years ago...the stories I heard were scary, mostly with regards to how much "medical help" players get to avoid the injured listing...but they're different sports. If you want to compare them, I will now tell you that compared to rugby union players, most of the NFL could do with some toughening up, but again, THAT would be as churlish as the comparison you're making...BTW, i've played footy and rugby and still play footy. The injuries in football are by and large worse; it's the speed of the game versus the nature of contact.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

Bale shouldn't dive.....but I honestly think it's in response to being one of the most fouled players in the league....how many times does he take a HEAVY tackle each game?? He anticipates contact and looks to ride the challenge in most cases IMO.

But

A common sense, and I believe, accurate response that most of us have when we see these things...it's a tremendous shame he does it BUT he gets tacotted without protection on a regular basis, and every ****-Adam foul does nothing to make him feel he should, err, "man up" and let it roll...

Re: Bale's Dive Today

American football is a mans game?

Sure, remove the padding and it would be a mans game.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

I'd imagine there has also been consoltation with those that run the game and the refs regarding Bale and that he has told them he will do what he did against Guzan and anyone else he thinks is coming to get him. If there hasn't been, I suggest that the club do so.

All this came out a few months ago about his diving etc and he clearly stated that he does it to avoid injury. He gets critizied still then Adam comes along in the summer and clatters him.

Personally I'd prefer a fit Bale, as long as all the cards are on the table and everyone knows he is doing it and doesn't expect to gain fouls from it, or even be booked for it.

Again, far, FAR too much common sense in the above post.

I have no problem with this. None at all. As I've said already, Bale has clearly been targeted by teams in the past and will continue to be so. The last thing I want to see is another serious injury (or even a not-so-serious one) and I don't mind if he needs to 'dive' out of the way to avoid a violent challenge. He shouldn't have to do it, but he clearly needs to sometimes.

My problem is when he then appeals for a free kick, or rolls around like he's in agony. That's the problem, not the 'dive' itself but the attempt to con the referee. That's the cheating.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

Bale absolutely has dived before and i personally hate it and i wish/hope our club does something about it...But watch the gif again, don't look at Bale but watch the keepers legs, he is going for an almighty swing and then pulls it at the very last fraction of a second, had he followed through then what Bale did next would have mitigated the blow somewhat imo by "rolling" with the kick.

Bale DOES dive in games but i'll give him a pass on this one, though having said that whilst he didn't appeal he certainly didn't make any clear indication to anyone what had just happened, i think he played mum because he absolutely would have accepted a free kick if given.

Diving is a cancer on the game.

Given there was no contact and he was already past Guzan, he could have kept running.

He's been there, done that and got his ankles smashed in a few times before. If Guzan hadn't have pulled out of the challenge Bale would have been smashed, noone knew that Guzan would be sporting / clever enough to pull out.

I would go further and say that the dive is cheating too. Jumping out of the way of a tackle is the way to avoid it, not letting your legs collapse under you.

Does Bale appeal in this instance? Someone said earlier he did, but I've not seen that on any of the coverage.

Im sure i saw his motioning to the linesman whilst he was still laying on the floor.
And my immediate reaction was he was out of order as there was no foul.

But as no one else has seen it, Maybe im wrong. Will try and look again tmro nite.
If anyone taped football first, the reverse angle replay is what i saw.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

if bale hadn't been such a bitch, stayed on his feet and taken the contact from guzan, he would have had the keeper sent off... he really is a pansy at times and anyone justifying that dive is absolutely deluded.

he needs to cut it right out of his game.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

I guess if Bale is diving to avoid injury, then when there is no contact he could protest straight away and tell the ref there wasn't a touch.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

Utter rubbish, Guzan was just about to muller him but stopped in 3 milliseconds.

Yes, obviously. See my post on page 5.

You are being a very naughty boy in this thread

The hypocrisy in this thread is breathtaking! I will not argue that Bale gets kicked a lot, the evidence is in this thread, but Luis Suarez got kicked all over the park by Huth yesterday, did that cut him any slack in this thread? Did it fudge!

You won't find one non Spurs fan who will defend Bale or buy any excuses that are trotted out in this thread.

Yep it's garbage how some people can't take off their Spurs glasses for a moment.

Makes me worry that if we ever have a Terry/Suarez-esque case, we'll have the same tarnished image that those clubs do.

Re: Bale's Dive Today

erm... can we merge this thread with the main Bale one?
just don't want to see the added attention elevate Bale to the same level as Suarez.

Not true, was down the pub tonight with a few friends. I'd say it was half and half saying Bale looked like he was anticipating a hit because of Guzan. Whereas everyone thought that Suarez second act, the time delay swallow dive was plain ridiculous.

Bale was anticipating it, but that doesn't mean it's not a dive or any better than Suarez's dive. Both were shocking.

Football makes a hypocrite of everyone, it just depends where you find yourself engaging with it's inevitable grasp.

...so many questions to ask...

I'll try a few.

1) Do you play the wonderful game?
2) Have you ever taken any form of hard physical contact in a game/match of some sort?
3) Do you use the word 'bitch' on a daily basis? if so, enlighten me as to it's context in your vocabulary?

Thanking you in advance.
