Franco Baldini - New Technical Director

Re: Franco Baldini

I hope this Baldini thing isn't going to drag on over the summer and disrupt our transfers (although Levy usually does a pretty good job of that on his own I suppose).

Re: Franco Baldini

Its on the official Roma site now.

AS Roma announces that it has consensually ended the professional relationship with Mr. Franco Baldini. The football operations will passed on to Walter Sabatini who will report directly to CEO Italo Zanzi.
“We thank Franco Baldini for his service to AS Roma over the past two seasons. He played an important role in the launch of our project. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”, said AS Roma president James Pallotta.
“I want to thank AS Roma’s ownership for the opportunity to work together. I have enjoyed my time in Rome and wish the best to the club, the players and fans.”, added Franco Baldini.
“We appreciate Franco’s contribution to the club. AS Roma’s top priority continues to be success on the field. We are very confident in our future and look forward to building on the excellent talent base that we have assembled under the last two years. Walter Sabatini and I will work closely with President Pallotta as we finalize our coaching staff and player roster for this season.”, said AS Roma CEO Italo Zanzi.

Re: Franco Baldini

Great news.

Lets just hope Chelsea aren't still using AVB's DoF wishlist, as well as his transfer targets one.

Re: Franco Baldini

Awesome get him in quick and get the transfers done quickly finally we have the magic combo Levy wanted- whether it was Pleat not getting on with Hoddle, Arnesen falling out with Santini or Comolli undermining Jol finally Levy will have a manager and DOF who want to work with each other!

Who is this person?

What caught my eye was knowing how to grow a global brand. I heard Baldini was responsible for starting a sort of youth development thing at Roma in the same sort of mould as what Barcelona have. With our unbelievable training facilities, Baldini could be very crucial in helping us move up to that level. I'm very excited.

Italian journalist - mate of Baldinis

Seems confident he will be able to pull of Villa and will bring Pjanic with him.

Second one for me. Exactly what I'm hoping for from this summer.

Re: Franco Baldini

is Pjanic more attacking than say Modric/Mouthino type?

edit: thought someone was saying Villa wants to be played central at his next destination? although i do really like the look of the 2nd line up in Mumorns post (maybe someone different to Leandro though)

Regarding Pjanic.. he could quite easily play the Xavi role. Sit there and spray the ball out, keep things simple and provide killer passes. I just have visions of him doing the simple stuff, finding our attackers with outstanding defence splitting passes whilst Dembele barges and bulldozes his way past players providing space for Pjanic to find himself in to, whilst Sandro mops up behind them.

Yes, more attacking. But people seem to think he'll mature into more of a deeper sitting regista. With Sandro and Dembele behind him, and in a trio rather than duo, he'd have more licence than Modric used to anyway.

Personally I think Villa is too small to play as a lone forward in the EPL and that he'd be better keeping to his Barca position out left.
