FIFA: Destroying Football Since 1904

From a purely business perspective, you’re correct. But, morally and when it comes to football, you’re wrong.

The World Cup final will attract event junkies, many of whom are minted. They’ll have little interest in the actual sport or game but they’ll be at a World Cup final. Is it right that those people will get tickets over people who’ve likely supported their country for years and through qualifying?
Yes, of course. If they're willing to pay more then they have more right to the ticket than anyone else.

I really really like the McLaren 720s. I'm fairly sure that I like it more than most people who own one. Does that mean that they should be sold at a discount to me because I somehow deserve one more?

Coming to the PL sooner rather than later
It already has.

I've managed to get my son into a few Emirates Marketing Project games around the South by just paying more. I also rarely miss out on gigs I want to go to thanks to dynamic pricing and touts. It's a good system that works as it should.

The analogy is massively flawed. If we go with your logic, football fans are no more than regular customers. That’s a pretty dystopian view of things.

I dont agree with it at all, but its def going down the American Yielding model where they sell top end games like the NLD for 2k a ticket etc. It's coming

I guess that's where we'll always disagree then because I believe that is morally wrong and you seem to be okay with it.

I don't think many agree with the high prices, where money is concerned there's little morality, it's not a fair world and it's not going to change in the foreseeable future.

There has to be some way of distributing a scarce resource amongst large number of buyers.

Filtering on price is fairer than randomness, which is probably the next fairest method.

I’d love to see some of the big FAs grow a set and cut FIFA out of the game, thus taking back control. A few big nations creating their own tournament and withdrawing from the World Cup would be a massive start. Could you imagine if England, Germany and Spain pulled out? Let’s face it, 96 years (with a large break in the 1930s/40s) doesn’t exactly constitute a wealth of history. The history of football does NOT belong to FIFA. There are hundreds of clubs all over the world that go back further than FIFA; it would be fantastic to see football take back what it rightfully owns and cut cancerous charlatans like FIFA off completely.

It’s all complete pie in the sky, of course, and couldn’t possibly happen. But it’s nice to dream!

I have some sympathy for your views but FIFA is not the problem, it's the people running it. The money generated by these completions should be used to make better equipment, facilities and coaching available around the world for all the young kids to get involved.

Yes, I’d somewhat buy that, although couldn’t you make the same argument for any number of organisations? I’m not going to flippantly start suggesting examples!!

Maybe the organisation is so lost that the game needs to start afresh.

I believe all organisations get so big they lose touch with their original goals and the opportunist see there's money and power up for grabs.

FIFA do need to step up to their processes though. Have a read of this article today - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/czdq0m2z0emo

I'm not saying there is no good stuff in there at all. What I'm saying is that they won't address the elephant in the room. They will happily look at a situation where 2 guys are clean through on goal but overall the team had numbers and would have scored. Then it's becoming a red card.

Then you read this
"There was more agreement on second yellow cards. It seems certain VAR reviews will be introduced for players who have been sent off.

Potential second bookable offences will not be reviewable. That would open the floodgates for every challenge by a player on a caution to be looked at."

So the elephant in the room where every single game is being influenced by referees ignoring the laws of the game on yellows and not in scope of this IFAB review. I've watched so many games where entire results are influenced by the cards not being given. In Emirates Marketing Project's case, it cost them a trophy last year. We all have war wounds where referees are changing entire competitions like World Cups and Champs Leagues where they are blatantly ignoring the laws of the game on yellows and reds. The very thing they are put on the pitch for iun the first place. It is fundamentally the biggest area of the game where they need video ref support. That is assuming we can also address the human incompetence that goes with that process.

With competent refereeing based on the laws, we beat West Ham on Saturday. No doubt in my mind at all. It's groundhog day over and over again.
