Exactly so when it was used as an insult this was a great way (at the time words had less sensensitvity ) to show that and it evolved to represent all the special things that we are proud as a club it no longer only represents the Jewish slur.

I think you’re right to point out that times are different now though (“a time when words had less sensitivity”) and the world has moved on somewhat.
It would be good to start to differentiate it from football again ideally. As a nickname, ‘Spurs’ is a bloody good one we can all get behind.

And if we started this now it would be a big no no, the word yid has an alternate meaning now (for over 40 years), words evolve Yid has changed or at least has an alternative meaning

It is quite important as if our using yid is racist this would also imply its always been racist / offensive and I don't believe this to be the case and if it wasn't then its certainly not now when the link with the Jewish meaning is now less prominent.
 
We are up there as one of the most disliked clubs in England, definitley below United, Liverpool, Chelsea and probs Arse and Chelsea but still up there. Genuine question, does a lot of the hatred stem from the club's Jewish connections/fanbase?

I think that there is a definite element of Jew hatred from some other clubs and as I'm Jewish and went to my first game in 1972 I have certainly witnessed it first hand.
However apart from a small amount of Neo Nazis at clubs like Chelsea I think the bulk of fans that sing songs about Auschwitz etc are just simple minded macarons. I'm not easily offended and my response to Nazi salutes etc back in the day was to get well stuck in wherever possible rather than filing reports with the board of Deputies etc. I always found the crack of a facists head hitting the concrete a highly satisfying sound. I do remember on one occasion we were going to an away match, I think in the 80s and some clown got off the train and spray painted BNP Yids on the station wall. Baddiel would have had a field day with that one.

No - although its not allowed to be mentioned we are successful over a long period of time so a lot of hatred comes form that (look at the names you have mentioned which is also true) added to this when we were mid-table we were still a big fish and acted that way around our "rivals" at that time. The jewish connections are a stick to beat us with not the cause of the hatred, very few people I have never met someone who actually hates jews but have met loads who would use it as an insult (banter).
 
Well, we made it onto BBC London News this evening. “Tottenham Hotspur not doing enough to stamp out rascist chanting” or words to that effect with a shot of last night’s crowd singing “yiddo, yiddo” after Kane scored, as proof.
With airtime for Ivor Baddiel opposite Mike Leigh (Spurs Show) in the studio.
So once again, it’s all down to us.
I thought Leigh’s defence was quite weak and he totally missed the opportunity to call out the specific abuse by other fans. Because of course Baddiel didn’t want to make it about Chelsea.

Shame. The media are creating something out of not much. The fact that a swathe of mixed white, black, jewish, korean etc Spurs fans chant yiddo, yiddo to a non-jewish Spurs player shows that the chant has nothing to do with race day to day - now. The only people giving the term racial meaning are the media and the rather sad baddiels; it's truely alarming they have stood by chelsea, criticising Spurs, while their own fans evoke the holocost.

Yes. If there is a genuine debate to be had about the offensiveness of the word to a Jew, it cannot rank lower or be deemed to be the root cause if the songs that some of the people that the Baddiel Bros see fit to identify with. ‘Oh the lads next to me make hissing noises and referencing the holocaust, which I have always found really offensive but I haven’t said anything to them after all the years of being a Chelsea fan, because it would never have happened if all those Spurs fans hadn’t continued calling themselves one of the names also used to insult their peers.’
 
That is the thing, yid hasn't been used in everyday speech to denigrate people since the 1970s-80s in my opinion. Some older jews find the term uncomfortable becuase they remember a time when it was used. But times were or are changing. Mosley and the black shirts was in the 1930s, almost 90 years ago! And Spurs use of the word remains an act of anti-racism in history.

Would be interesting to figure out when Spurs fans started to show franternity with jewish fans using the term ourselves, must have been in the 1960s or 70s? Or earlier?

Because, for example, last time I went to the Etihad, I had to walk back to my car across the road from a group of about a hundred city fans walking in the same direction going through their whole repertoire of "Spurs are on their way to Auschwitz" etc. It's common currency in certain quarters, like the N & P words.
