European Super League - Dead on arrival

This is how a stand on it atm too

I wonder if long term, 2nd or 3rd leagues will be introduced and the prospect of promotion/relegation within that pyramid?

The PL will just be B teams, like the owners wanted.

I assume so, if the idea is to get more sponsorship you will want teams like Ajax and Celtic in it for the fan bases/TV views

Wouldn’t be shocked if it expanded to South America.

Not likely, the model is American Sports

- The level of investment, marketing, players salaries will go up significantly but the owners get protected, no disruptors, minimum risk.

Eastern/Central/Wetsern divisions, ike the NFL, with a similar style playoff at the end would be somewhat more attractive i think.

Maybe so. But the ESL is not competition. Square it with yourself however you like it’s just not the same.

Levy is a joke. We have no right to be in that . We are a shambles at the moment. We deserve no place in Europe’s elite on footballing merit. Just because we are worth X amount we are invited. It flys in the face of what sport is about.
That's not quite true.... It is still a competition, albeit a (virtually) closed shop competition. The NFL, etc are still competitions despite having no promotion/relegation system.

You do indeed.... Or perhaps Poche

The single only reason that we are richer than Ajax is because we play in the Premier League (the goose that lays the golden egg that we are about to help kill).

How are we going to "kill" the PL?

Once the FA wraps there head around it, their precious top 6 will remain the same (titles may actually become more competitive as the 5/6 clubs will have big money) and they will get the brand recognition value of having those clubs/players in the PL, win for them, it's UEFA/CL that gets fudged.

The domestic league should have been reformed long ago too, 92 professional clubs, in a country this small, most of whom have been constantly fighting for survival for decades, it's a mess.

The whole thing needs a shake up.

The league 1, 2 Conference need to be regionalised, for sure.

I expect lawyers will be on the case readying a defence or challenge against any such sanctions.
If JP Morgan have fronted billions in for this, legal representation, and anticipation of potential roadblocks will naturally be part of the due diligence done.

They've nicely used the part of a football pitch that is a circle with a line through it: No Entry.

The lawyers would have the paperwork ready now.

Any attempt by UEFA/FA/Any other league to "do something" will be met by lawyers who have had months to plan this.

You're right, we don't deserve to be in it. That's why you have to admire Levy for how he's gotten us in. He's anything but a joke. I don't believe that very many other people could have gotten us a seat at the table.

The other thing this tinkles all over is away fans. Away fans really make an atmosphere at most games. Very few will be able to attend games in Madrid, Barcelona, Milan etc. But then, away fans don't account for much revenue by just being away fans and football has survived the last 12 months without any fans at all. Yay money.
In some ways it would allow more/different away fans to attend games. It's impossible to get tickets for games for newish fans that don't have lots of loyalty points and you can't earn the loyalty points as you always miss out in the ballot for games.

The founding clubs come from the top three leagues, so that applies to all of them. We are there because of the stadium and size of fanbase.

There’s very little consequences to poor performance if there is no promotion or relegation. What’s the point?

a lot of clubs would be financially more secure if they were part time in a different structure

so many of them treading water, harder and harder as time goes on to get new fans and investment

All this talk about greed, what a load of humbug. Of course its about greed, but remind me of a time when it wasn't.

60 years ago Jimmy Hill forced clubs to agree to abandon the £20/week maximum wage. The Football League had been holding out against it for decades because they were greedy. Now it's the players who are greedy. What is £400k/week anything other than greed?

Reality is we are all greedy. It's called survival and it's in our genes. Deal with it.

Domestic pyramid is the life , blood and soul of football in this country. From 6 year olds to elite football it’s all linked.

ESL is a soulless Americanisation of the sport. It does not matter what happens on the pitch as long as the owners get rich.

Pardon my ignorance, but how is it all linked?

Nah, its Saturn, where the final will be played

I'd love that, Boca and River in it too.

But I'm guessing it won't be the hardcore away fans who can go. You may have away fans at the games but you won't have the atmosphere.
