Eric Dier

as defensive midfielder he's my favourite player.

at centre half. he's fourth choice.

Well we dont really have any DM alternatives at the moment

4th choice CB? Cant be behind Wimmer given none of us have really seen him play. And Fazio will be gone within 48 hours so he'll soon be your 3rd choice CB

He's done well in a role he's not used to and not 100% suited to.
He has a certain nastiness to him which Bentaleb also has but in the likes of Bentaleb and Rose it will boil over.
But he will that an extra touch before passing it on which is not his fault. Some players can just see everything on the pitch faster and see the options before runs are even made. Dier will never have it. He cant see passes Mason and Bentaleb can and wont try them. He will play generally safe. Which will be good in some games and a hindrance in others. I like how he is comfortable dropping back when either of the back two go marauding upfield.

dier was poor at cb last year. constantly beaten in the air, allowed runners across him. i wouldnt want to see him play there again unless two others are injured.

I loved it when we played Man U. He had a little dig with Ashley Young, and I could lip read most of it, an definitely caught the essence but he either said "you know what you are" or "you know what you do".

Loved it because he said it with such disdain and Young looked gutted!

That was my highlight of the season so far....

Young was billy big balls and then bricked it

He was amazing today, but I still worry about having such a young central midfield. Get an experienced defensive midfielder in, play alongside Ali or bentsleb. Dire can back up DM and CB then, he'll get loads of games.

?? not sure you have that right, Dier's performances at CB last season were generally good, the couple of mare games he had were really at RB (and even there he had a couple of decent games as well)

Either way, definitely his best game as a DM so far today

hes a much better right back than centre back. I think he proved that.

I thought he was one of our best CBs last year when he came in. Personally, if we get a decent DM in then I would rotate Dier, Jan and TA for the CB positions with Wimmer getting games here or there (based on the fact that I've never seen him play)

I feel bitter-sweet about Dier's very good performance today: a sign that we are resigned to not buying a specialist CM/DCM by Tuesday?

What?? He's good at right-back granted, but he's much better at CB - how do you think he "proved" otherwise??

didnt think he was any better than fazio at all. always thought there was an error in him whenever he played centre half. right back he grew into the role the later the season went on, good going forward and a cracking cross ohim.

He is/was faster than Fazio and was able to keep up with most of the fast.....hold on...were you talking about Vertonghen here?

It's weird, I've been a fan of him in that role since the Real Madrid pre-season game, but today I came away with the impression that this was his worst game in that role since then.

Glad the booze worked for you today .. in all seriousness mate, he was imposing as a DM today (not flawless), but that's something I haven't seen in Spurs probably since an in form Sandro.
