I am a firm believer in players being picked on form, but in Dier’s case we have no alternative Winks is not a holding player, Wanyama is definitively broken, and there are question marks over Skipp’s true level, Dier if fit should be allowed to get a run assuming his body is up to it.

Dier looks as broken as Wanyama every time he plays in midfield. He really is not an option. I would rather try Toby there than Dier. It was a position he played in at Southampton iirc.

Mate I keep saying it, Dier is awful in midfield this is not reacting to one game but several games last season where he was also poor.. We are quick to jump on Sissoko:s back but I fail to see how Dier deserves a place ahead of him. But long term neither are actually good enough. So we need to find alternatives. It is a priority.

Dier isn’t awful
Like sissoko ain’t either
People have opinions and can have their views
Dier needs more than one game to judge but he was poor today
Sissoko is suffering from being versatile but ultimately he is now a CM and should just play there
The issue is that Poch wants to get NDombele playing and we need the transitioning of winks and that showed today
 
More worrying than the misplaced passes, which could just be rustiness, was the plodding about. Was he always that slow?

Indeed.

Dier has proved that he CAN play that position but he has had a awful time with injurys and illness and as someone said its madness to judge on yesterdays game.

I don’t know how anyone can think Dier is good enough. This isn’t just a reaction to yesterday. He hasn’t been any good since 2016/17. Not to mention that car crash of a performance against Bournemouth last season when he was subbed off to avoid a red card. Neither him or Sissoko are good enough on the not defensively for us to progress.

Again that’s an opinion and your entitled to it

I remember him getting slated last season vs Brighton too yet it was him with the key passes that helped us win the game

He may not get back to his best but you can’t getting an odd game that’s for sure
