So more points in 16/17 means the performance was better than 15/16?To a point yes but other than Leicester who reverted to type, the form of teams in the league wasn’t that drastically different than the previous season. Chelsea were much improved. Arsenal were virtually the same. Liverpool and united marginally improved. Bottom line is the league wasn’t radically different other than Chelsea and Leicester compared to the previous campaign.
We were definitely more ruthless and clinical in front of goal as Son became more of a regular and took advantage of Lamela’s extended absence through injury. We also looked more solid at the back and conceded less goals. It’s all subjective of course but the stats and the overall form of the team make me believe that if our 2016/17 team could somehow play the 2015/16 team then the 16/17 would win and get more points ultimately.
EDIT: just checked the league table for each season. 81 points won the title in 15/16 and 66 points was required for top 4 compared to 93 points and 76 respectively for the title and top 4. Leicester and Chelsea essentially swapped from the previous season.
