ENIC

If you back the chairman and owners over the players and manager and everyone else then it’s strange yes. I find it strange that people are still so loyal to him but each to their own. Especially over a World Cup and Copa America winner. Is there any player past or present whose name would carry enough weight for people to listen? And even more strange, people won’t commit to a timeframe with how much more time Levy should get. Chairmen have a longer lifespan than players and managers I understand that, but let’s say we miss the top 4 for the next 3-5 seasons and win nothing, is that enough time?

And after 20 years and delivering the training ground and stadium, what else is there left to deliver?

Read my comment again

- I'm not dismissing any concerns re current ownership
- But you cannot back a player over structure, not even a Messi (Barca is still digging out of the hole of that sustained fudgeup)
- And managers are barely any better, would you give a Jose/Conte keys to decisions? for them to melt down 2 months later and walk away?

Club first ..

- Now as I said, are the current owners doing the right things? separate conversation and not based on the word of Romero ..

I don’t think fans will
He is saying more than what most players ever would
It will cost him a few weeks wages but I’d rather a player stand up and be counted than not

Interesting, wouldn't you prefer he stand up and be counted on the pitch?
Don't disagree with Romero's sentiments generally, but you have to wonder about the wisdom of speaking about it publicly...he should; save it for when he goes to Madrid and people ask "why did you leave, apart from the fact you're likely to play in CL finals"

I’d love him too
And I think he is really stupid
But at least thsi shows he gives a brick

Not singling you out, but I would bet most fans on here STILL will back Levy over a current player. Sums up the state of the club and the fans.

And where do these Madrid rumours keep coming from? For now, he’s a Spurs player. 99% of players would want to go to Real Madrid if they had the chance.
No problem.
I don’t especially back Levy, just recognise that he’s not going anywhere until he wants to, but also believe he does what he sees as best for the club (and not all this rubbish about only being interested in profit and property). And it’s the club I support, not Levy or Lewis or the Board. Do I wish Levy would loosen the purse strings from time to time - of course I do, but the fact that he doesn’t does not mean I think he should go.

You mention the state of those fans who back Levy but I could equally mention the state of the fans who try to create a toxic atmosphere by booing the team, slagging the manager, using any opportunity to turn their ire towards Levy, whether rational or not, calling for boycotts etc. The fact is as fans, although we all want the best for our club, we are not an homogenous group and there are going to be differing points of view as to what that “best” looks like - and differing levels of patience as to how we get there.

I can appreciate that a player such as Romero, experienced, senior, world cup winner, might not buy into the concept of a rebuild where all our investment is not for the here and now (although some of it has been) but is rather for future seasons. That’s not what he signed up for. I also read it that his answer is meant to be supportive of Ange (which is good to see) by placing blame for current form elsewhere. It seems he was responding to a specific interview question and I have no idea if it’s a true transcript or translation of what he actually said. My initial reaction was one of cynicism because there have been rumours over the past few months about interest from Real Madrid and comments that the club will not listen to any such noise. So what better way to get things moving than to create some friction? Maybe I am doing him a disservice there.

I don’t see his comments as particularly helpful, (but not particularly harmful either) especially when Ange said only the other day that we are in a rebuild phase and to keep bringing in experienced players is not a rebuild, it would be topping up a squad that was close to winning and that was not us.

So Romero is kind of missing the point of the strategy.

…says the ‘supporter’ who only shows up when there is a crisis and wants to put down the clubs owners. There must be more to your narrative. Or is that is?

No, that's pretty much it mate. ENIC are responsible for about 95% of what ails this club, and until they are tossed or walk, nothing will change. Fairly simple message, usually also the right one.

Though, I do support the football club, not the owners. I understand there are some who do the exact opposite - I find you just as odd as you find me. But hey, to each his own, and if it gives you happiness, have at it.

He's hardly pulling up trees when he plays.

Should probably keep his mouth shut and do the job he's paid to do - seems to be far from the WC winner when he's wearing Spurs colours.
True, but it doesn't mean he's wrong. Ultimately he can do his job to a superhuman level, and we will still fail because of our structural limitations relative to our competitors.

Romero could score a hat-trick every week and we'd still finish around 5th-6th with a massive disadvantage against everyone else. And until ENIC leave and we get owners with ambition, this will always be the case.

I'd suggest yes, a little bit of a disservice to him. Fact is he signed for us under Nuno in 2021 - at the end of this year he will have given us four years of his career, despite us being in perpetual chaos and finishing 8th, 5th, now languishing in 11th, etc.

He's a World Cup winner and widely recognized as one of the best in the world - even with his recent string of blunders, I think he could have had the pick of clubs across Europe for the last few years. Despite that, he stayed.

I think he's just as frustrated with ENIC and the way they run the club as a growing percentage of fans. I also don't think he's alone in his unhappiness - he's just the first one to come out and say it. Like with Hugo in his memoir, I think others will speak up at different times to reaffirm the things he highlights.

Funny how when Conte said similar he's a big bad monster, but when Romero says it he just wants the best for the club. Just like when Poch says some absolutely ridiculous things posters on here were insisting he didn't really mean as such and meant something completely different, yet whatever Ange says is taken as gospel and used to beat him with a stick. The hypocrisy of fans just to suit their agenda :D

As for Romero, I said this before and nothing to do with his comments - If we get a sizeable bid for him then sell him. Good player when he fancies it, but can't be relied upon either on the pitch (constantly rash decisions) or to actually get on the pitch in the first place unless its his beloved Argentina.....

In isolation his comments aren’t that worrying but when you have Lloris also saying similar things recently (that the club isn’t that concerned about winning) well then it confirms what a lot of us have been saying for years. The club will always be in a great position financially with these owners but they won’t do what it takes to win on the pitch.

been a 'Levy out' type guy for a long while. think i will give up the 2 STs. Under Levy, nothing will change. He will NEVER go big to make the silverware, we know this, he will do the bear minimum he can get away with, try and be smart, try and land magic in a bottle with luck like he did wit Poch.

Always a lot of "be careful what you wish for" but as i've said before, you can't change the second highest prices in the league and then behave like Brighton. If you want to behave like Brighton, charge Brighton prices.

Nah, say it now. Be brave and say how you think. fudge the fallout, let your truth ring loud and clear and then the club has to react.

I hate the pledge of omerta that exists within football where people never speak their truth through fear of upsetting people.

It’s the issue I have with all the levy out shouts
No one knows what the alternative is but always assumes it’s better
It’s possible
We don’t know because it’s not happened
What is clear, and desire people not wanting to check it out… we spend the money we have
Football is predictable when you knew the circumstances but we don’t known the circumstances of a potential buyer
Does seem that the Saudis have stepped back from investing in Saudi Sportswashing Machine. Form what I’ve heard in respected Pods they believe that as they can’t influence the sport quickly they would rather invest in other sports such as boxing, F1 and their own league

Honestly. ENIC won't go anywhere. And we are gone past sugar daddy owners now.

So the question is what can be done.

Customer dissatisfaction is key. We are annoyed. We need a change of strategy. We need better footballing decisions. However we don't really know how things are decided other than it's Levy deciding everything at the highest level and sometimes at other levels.

Keep showing your annoyance but Levy out and ENIC out don't work for me. Not attending and not spending does. And that's the choice us die hards cannot make.

Change strategy from what to what? A structure has been put in place on the football side in the last 18 months to support footballing decisions. Should we just throw that out and start again? If so why?

Surely you should back whichever/whoever you think is right instead of just defaulting to back the owners?

I think all of us are painfully aware that this club is not really concerned about winning. Decisions like sacking Mourinho in the week of a Cup final because he wouldn't toe the line and not rest players in the PL game taking place a few days before surely show that beyond any reasonable doubt.
