Daniel Levy - Chairman

I think we face a bit of an identity...not crisis...but maybe 're-identification'. Redefinition of who we are? Posted something along these lines in the stadium thread. We look like a big club. Visit the stadium or training ground and there are few better across the globe. To look at ! we are there. But of course, we are not there. We are far from it. We were closer to our footballing aspirations in a tumbledown reduced capacity WHL. In old WHL expectations were different. Spurs identity was different. We were happy to be plucky and punch above our weight. Now we are still that plucky underdog fiancially, just wearing a smart overcoat which hints at more. It is a funny moment in our history. At the moment we are still an aspiring club, still financially the same as we were at WHL. While things won't change overnight (see how City took years to taste success even when financially doping) we feel different now. Because we know there is more to come. Fans are impatient. They want it all now. But the biggest con we sell ourselves is that on-field success is the destination. What made WHL great was the unity, the passion, the honesty. We didn't pin all our hopes on on-field success there. I am a little saddened at how fans have lost their previous identity and togetherness. It is almost like Levy has created a stadium that carries expectation in its foundations.
Actually Poch created that unity
Levy didn’t IMO
Pochs biggest achievement was pulling together the fans and club

I hundred percent guarantee before the start of the season. We will have signed a manager and at least 2 players.

Whether they are good or not we'll discuss next summer. Till then keep your pants on.
Before the start of the season (as in the first PL game) or the start of pre season?

I don't forget the good things levy and enic have done to progress the club, nor the status the club was at in the 90s and early naughties.

There are however four big issues that I think make it perfectly legitimate to question levy's leadership

1. Stadium development. We were more than a year late and significantly overspent. In my opinion a big factor in this was levys foolhardy decision to proceed without appointing a principal contractor. Major infrastructure projects are incredibly complicated to deliver especially in the tight time frames originally envisaged, and levy and his team did not have the specialist expertise to manage all the subcontractors and maintain the programme. It was only once Mace were brought on board that we got back on track. Mace or someone like them should have been involved from the start.

2. Failure to back pochettinho in the transfer market. Particularly when pochettinho was talking about a rebuild in our cl final season. Poch was easily our best manager in the last 20 years, his approach fitted the resource profile of the club and he wanted to build a dynasty here. Instead levy sacked him off and brought on Mourinho

3. Appointing mourinho without backing him in the transfer market. Mourinho needs lots of money to be successful. Levy inarguably did not provide this backing after appointing him, missing out on key targets like skriniar.

I think the sacking of poch and appointment of jose was wrong, but if you were going to do that at least commit to it fully and back jose fully.

4. Sacking jose just before a cup final and without a plan to replace him. Words fail me on this one, particularly in the way we have floundered around since Jose's departure. And then to try and bring in conte despite there being the exact same issues (not a match for the club in terms of transfer budget demands and preference for expensive experienced players over young bargains and club youth.)

These are the 4 biggest things that make me question levy's stewardship, but there are many earlier examples too, like sacking jol for ramos, or failing to back Redknapp at key points in the transfer market.

I don't see how anyone can consider the above and say that everything that levy and enic has done is perfect and we should all be simply grateful for their existence and never question them, which seems to be the stance of some people on here.

Who are these posters?

Looks like Poch was fooled by Levy too. Otherwise why have Wijnalndum at his home? Could explain his lack of motivation or burnout after 18 months of transfer embargo. Imagine Wijnaldum could be great as for Dembele/ Wanyama replacements.

You know the story of when Poch tried to get him here years back, right? Is that what you're referring to?

It's all gone a bit Arsenal fan TV "Wenger OUT!" in here... Sad to see to be honest.

How's "Wenger out" working for them? Be careful what you wish for
They weren't wrong in thinking Wenger had gotten to the end of his time. The mistake they made was thinking he was the source of their problems when the fish always rots from the top.

Lilbaz for one, I’m sure there are others!
I've been reading his posts and don't get the impression that he thinks Levy is perfect or doesn't get things wrong tbh

The new stadium brings with it additional revenue which in turn raises expectations - we all know the general rule is money=success so when our turnover post stadium has us in line with the likes of Liverpool & Chelsea then it's not hard to see why fans expectations have been raised - the thinking was always we need to leave WHL so we can compete afterall.

It's a shame that people have given up 2 years and a pandemic in to our post NWHL era but that's football for you.

Sadly that warning needed to come in 2019, particularly Sept/Oct...

I would not have got rid of Poch. Something was definitely up with him, but he earned the right to see out that season and the next one as well, as long as we were not in a relegation battle.

Having said that, Levy has produced a sustained period of growth for the club which pre-dates poch and will carry on under his stewardship.

That growth is not just on the financial side of things (although both are interlinked). But very much on the Pitch as well. If we get into finals and semi finals and challenge for the title (s), then Levy is doing his job, winning them is obviously the final step and ultimate goal. But having us compete is Levy doing his job, the rest is down to the manger the players, luck, the opposition .... lasagna etc.

Poch fans (I'm one... but spurs first) forget that Poch was a Levy appointment, he was not a fan favourite choice to be honest. But a massively astute signing by Levy. The players we like... they were Levy signings as well, at least as much as the players we don't like are.

Anyways when Levy took over we were a shambles, we have seen the biggest period of growth on and off the pitch of any non doped club on or around our level, accept maybe Leicester (although that's another discussion).

Could we and should we want more... of course but let's be realistic and also appreciate what we have, unless there is a multi multibillionaire spurs fan knocking on his door begging Levy to sell so he can invest billions in to the squad... then Levy is doing well by us.

Could we dream for more... yeah sure. I dream about Jessica Alba, doesn't mean that I am about to tell my wife to leave just so Jessica would know I'm free.

If you say so. They have been in serial decline since he left. They would suck your dic k for constantly finishing Top 4 and the odd trophy, which was what Wenger was delivering before any of that Wenger out stuff started

How's "Wenger out" working for them?

It’s working out for them one place and one point below us - that after they had their worst season in over 20 years.

They continue to win the odd trophy, we don’t.

So we’re performing at, or arguably below, the same level as a Wengerless Arsenal.

When I was complaining about the level of success/achievement versus ticket prices he said there was no grounds for complaint

Yeah i saw, thinking that success doesn't determine ticket price doesn't mean he thinks Levy doesn't get anything wrong though?

Here’s a quote from one of his posts

“You have a choice. Support or don't.”

So if we choose to criticise we are not supporting? That’s some next level bs right there.

also the success is a measure of investment and how it’s applied. If levy/enic are requiring spurs fans to pay top dollar then this ought to be justified in how they use this income and the goals achieved.
