Daniel Levy - Chairman

Levy has done great things for us. He also could have done things better at times. The two aren’t mutually exclusive for me.

I posted this in another thread. I disagree with certain posters is that whilst I can appreciate everything Levy has done, I believe he and the ownership could have done better in certain areas to make the club even more successful just as I believe the players and the managers could have done things better at times. I look at Levy no differently than the players. I want him to improve certain aspects. Whereas I get the impression some people on here genuinely believe Levy could not have done any more or done anything differently without going into specifics.

I don’t know many Chelsea fans who are critical of Abramovich. Morally he’s a reprehensible person but you can’t argue with the success they have achieved. You can understand to a point why they are grateful to him and are scared to be critical as they are probably terrified he will leave and they will go back to being a nothing club. As great as Levy has been we haven’t enjoyed anywhere near that level of success. Relatively speaking we have been successful compared to what we had to endure in the 90s but success is measured on trophies as well. May sound harsh but that is the main thing we support the club for, not balance sheets, training grounds at events at the new stadium.

Of course he could have done more and better but the clubs at a level consistently it hasn’t been ever off the pitch which in the modern game is needed, a point missed I think by most. Being able to progress the club off the pitch whilst moving it along off the pitch has been great.

The trophy regression started long before Levy arrived and the game became more dominated by 2/3 clubs spending money we never could, levy’s work off the pitch has helped to close that gap, and although still a gap that has closed in recent years.

Will be interesting if all those fans who complained will keep quiet if the club are unable when football starts up again to sign players or have to sell off key players in order to maintain the clubs finances.
They’ll say the small amount saved here isn’t significant, but Levy is all about saving the pennies to be able to spend the pounds.

Sorry but your using examples of one horse leagues here so it’s really not the same...
may as well use a chairman who has taken over a team in the US Soccer League while your at it

PSG have shown how easy it is to fix a one horse league... they didn’t even have to do much

atletico is the most pertinent example there though for me as under Poch we had a similar mantra (play my way), were building a new stadium (there one really is poor though having went there for the CL final), and we’re trying to play catch up
A Difference though was additional investment that they had from China to give them a bump up. Their not a self sufficient side are they? I know they were going bust a weak times including 2011

Leagues without dirty money like Russian, Thai and Arab dollars which we have had for a lot longer. Even Germany made it hard for Red Bull.

I am shocked Dubai didn’t chuck in Rangers and Celtic.

Again, I have no issue with our owner being well supported. I also support them a lot and, in any discussions outside of this board, am often the most vociferous supporter of Levy.

The original point is the absolute unconditional support.

As I've said before, a huge amount of that on field progress has come under one manager. So I'll hold off full judgement on us 'joining the elite' until we're consistently there under multiple managers. I hope beyond hope that this happens.

I'm also not quite as interested as others in having a 'benchmark' stadium and, while I was excited about it, found the obsessing over biggest TV screens and number of LED lights and all of this kind of stuff during the build incredibly strange. As if I care how big the TV screens are or what types of bulbs they're using.

*Can I say before I get lynched that I completely agree with the Everton/ Saudi Sportswashing Machine etc points and it is a point I've made many times before too.

The stadium isn’t about LEDs and Seats although it’s nice and people are allowed to enjoy. It’s where it takes up in terms of revenues that then should reflect on the field, that’s where most level minded people see it.

The improvement started with Jol, Redknapp even AVB got the team upward even if boring and Poch made us consistent on a week in week out and finished the job.

As someone said on a post earlier in terms of trophies we had many SF and Final appearances it’s not all on Levy that we stumbled or some of Poch (who I love) made some baffling decisions

Its flimflam, all whilst BA put 30000 members of staff on %80 whilst there parent company made 3.2 billion last year.
Anti football flimflam.

I find the whole thing quite disgusting.

It's not for businesses to determine if laws set by the government are "moral".
As you say, far more wealthy industries haven't been criticised.

Personally think it's all a deliberate misdirection to shield the average Joe from the real imbalances of the country.

Will be interesting if all those fans who complained will keep quiet if the club are unable when football starts up again to sign players or have to sell off key players in order to maintain the clubs finances.

Do not hold your breath on that one mate, if i could be bothered i would run a book to see which member will be the first to bitch. I think we ALL know who that would be.

I think the club have done the right thing here. I’ll say again, I didn’t agree with the decision to furlough staff but I also understand why they did it.

It’s perfectly ok to large companies to listen to advice both internally (supporters groups etc) and externally and admit they got something wrong. Especially in these weird, unprecedented times we have seen the government make grave mistakes. No one is going to get it right all of the time.

Further from Hootnow’s post, I too consider my views on Levy quite moderate. In the real world I would be quite vocal in defending the club against fans of other clubs but amongst our own fans I am more likely to be critical and ask questions.
