Coronavirus

Hmmm, anyone from Australia want to give us an update of the lockdown situation(s)?
From the reports i'm seeing it seems to have gone into mass dystopia "in the name of infection control"...would love to hear from people there on this...

I really have no idea what the covid endgame is for Australia and NZ. Once they open their borders Delta is going to have a field day.

Whilst vaccinations will drastically reduce their deaths and hospitalisation rates, their economy will be flattened when it starts to spread.

It happened briefly here and we'd had far more exposure.

Each state is on a different trajectory in terms of easing restrictions (including opening international borders). NSW (Sydney) will be opening up in about two weeks, Victoria (Melbourne) is likely to have to wait until late October. Opening up will be gradual but the commitment is there to ride the storm regardless. We have high take up of vaccination (likely to end up around 90% double dosed) but each state is at a different stage in reaching that. On a personal note, I’m pretty tired of lockdown but having a newborn baby means my life is constrained anyway. Melbourne has had more days of lockdown than any city in the world (around 340 and counting since March 2020), people are over it but the end of the tunnel is in sight.

Please expand. Surely the economy can’t be shafted any more once it spreads, than it will under the current lockdown situation.

It was referred to by the press here as th "pingdemic."

Whilst the lockdown was over, isolation rules were still in place. That meant that even though those contracting it were healthy and well, they had to isolate at a moment's notice. Businesses can usually get by with a known and expected shortage of staff. During this period, businesses were losing large chunks of their workforce overnight.

The economy can deal with bad news, uncertainty is deadly.

This is so true. Not just for the economy IMO...

Cases going up largely due to schools going back. But hospitalisations going down (mostly kids getting infected).

Be interesting to see what happens to our european neighbours over winter. They've suppressed the virus somewhat, but also with tough vaccine passport rules, have less vaccine hesitancy.

Sydney Morning Herald | Anti-vaxxers in eastern Europe risk entire Continent’s efforts to end pandemic

Bulgaria and Romania are lagging dramatically behind as the EU’s two least-vaccinated nations, with just 22 per cent and 33 per cent of their adult populations fully inoculated. Rapidly increasing new infections have forced authorities to tighten virus restrictions in the two countries, while other EU nations such as France, Spain, Denmark and Portugal have all exceeded 80 per cent vaccine coverage and eased restrictions.

Interestingly, i read somewhere that Romania vaccines had such a low uptake rate that the EU had diverted those stocks to the Republic of Ireland to use instead...

Also of interest is that Singapore has a very high vaccination rate (80+%) amongst its population but has recently seen a massive surge in cases (much like Israel) so a surge in covid-19 cases in those countries in Europe quoted is not out of the question..

Seems that the vaccines are still doing their primary job in Singapore, as the surge in cases hasn’t translated into a significant increase in hospitalisations or deaths as yet but guess we’ll see over the next few weeks whether there’s a lag.

What would be even more interesting actually is if they have an increase in admissions or deaths related to heart attacks, ischaemic heart disease, strokes etc (like we seem to be seeing here...)

Anyone here very knowledgable on the coronavirus spike proteins?

Unless there’s actual scientists and professors in the relevant area posting on here, I very much doubt it. However you should check this lady out, she is absolutely brilliant and getting the right knowledge to the kids on the tiktok!

Interesting. I'd love to see this person go up against some specialist Biologists, Cardiologists and Immunologists who seem to be speaking about the coronavirus spike proteins and the mechanism of infection (and vaccination) so there can be a proper scientific discussion/debate.

A media agency was caught out advertising to train non-doctors to actually post information on Social Media platforms such as TikTok as though they were actual doctors...i know there's an information war going on but that's quite scary...

Their numbers are very small. But the last week has been their worst week for deaths since the pandemic began. With the day before yesterday being the most in a day. Which was only 8.
