Coronavirus

Have to ask why it took 8 months. There is a pattern with this government.
Well from what I know they have been on standby for a very long time
But could be worse... another government had plans to disband a lot of the forces so we wouldn’t have had them available
They are doing testing for people who are immobile in high risk areas with military’s staff door to door

8 months though. During the biggest national crisis since what WWII?

Massively ionic that Boris wrote a book about Churchill. Chirchill's brilliance as a war leader is almost the polar opposite of how Boris has run things. Churchill had foresight, right away he knew airpower would be key and got the UK building planes remarkably quickly. He worked his arse off. Galvanized the nation. Gave people belief in the nations actions. ...this lot take 8 months to utalise the army! And that is after Conservative MPs had to badger the government to use this national resource. Army support probably won't be part of a coherent plan of action (going on the track record), but them going through the motions to appear to be doing the right thing. And that is the pattern.

No this pandemic wasn't easy. Every government is up against it. But you expect leaders to come to the fore during crisis. To lead the nation to a better place.

There are supposed local lockdowns in various places in the UK. But do you think anyone observes them or takes Boris seriously? He is what he is. Quite an entertaining journalist who is not really equipped or diligent enough to run a country at this moment in time.

He's like an Ossie Ardiles of Prime Ministers (apologies Ossie) - entertaining, likable, has a grand vision albeit misplaced, but all said and done he is a pretty shocking manager!

Insane.

Would be interesting to get the accountant's views on how we pay all this back. It could take a generation? Or will it be diluted by inflation and people holding cash will effectively pay for it?
The full cost of this will take generations to pay off.

Inflating away national debt is not the answer (at least not for any serious economy).

Small change compared to what Amazon, Google and others defraud from the Exchequer every year.
Tax liability is what HMRC can legally prove, in court, is owed. Amazon Google and "the others" have paid every single penny they are liable for paying.

Do you pay more tax on top of your PAYE?

Average death of covid has again gone up to 84.4

Whitty has released more dodgy slides to back up pub closure instead of targeting the at risk areas which are care homes/hospitals again.

They are a shambles and going for easy targets.

So just 394 deaths due to flu from Jan to Aug, do you have the deaths due to flu in previous years? The graph seems to suggest around 25k last jan-Aug from a combination of flu and pneumonia, compared to a combined 14k in 2020.

Majority of flu deaths happen at the end of the year - but on average 17k flu deaths a year in the U.K. - so claiming there has been 400 and some of (if not all ) those that would have sadly died of the Flu have died of covid instead is top level gaslighting.

And for comparison with previous pandemics...
Since 1901, the year with the highest number of deaths was 1918 when there were 172,149 deaths due to influenza and pneumonia (Figure 3). 1918 was the year the pandemic known as the “Spanish flu” occurred. There were also influenza pandemics in 1957 (known as the “Asian flu”) and 1969 (known as the “Hong Kong flu”). These years also saw a rise in the number of deaths (29,788 and 46,966 deaths respectively) but the increase was not as large as in 1918.

How anyone can believe that the figures produced by the government and health service are correct is beyond belief, has anyone not use their doctor or the health service? Their record keeping and sharing of information is terrible.

The ONS and Imperial College figures are the ones to follow.

All of the figures are accurate, it is how they are visualised and briefed out that is the issue. The same data set being used to draw polar conclusions is not an uncommon theme and leaves people following there predisposed bias. It can be used to tell you what you want to hear. Objetcive analysis is rare. The ONS is one of those I trust.

I see that the 2020 flu season was a non event in the Southern Hemisphere, hopefully the same proves true for UK this winter...
