Given how abrasive Conte can be, I wouldn't be surprised if the softer approach of Stellini made a difference (and even if Conte did give the team talk over Zoom, it's different than having him in your face and Stellini still had the last word with the players). Where we lost our momentum was in the second half after a number of changes that Wolves made that overloaded the midfield. In all likelihood Conte was calling the shots as far as subs were concerned, so the fact we didn't react to Wolves' changes is probably down to him. I may be wrong, but I don't think that what I outlined is much of a stretch.

Sounds like you are giving credit to all the good in that game to Stellini and all the bad things to Conte, just because....it's no more a stretch to me saying that Sherwood was in the stands and asking Stellini to sub Porro and that Stellini got confused and forgot to make any subs until it was too late...

You would think, right? But it's equally plausible that Conte was calling the shots, what with the control freak that he is. Let's see how Stellini approaches in-game management in the next 10 games and that might give us an inkling as to what was the case when he was filling in for Conte.

No, it's not the same. One is making an assumption based on observations (e.g. how well the team started games when Stellini was in charge). The other is pulling something out of one's rear end.

I think £80k versus £90k was what I read at the time. Sissoko ended up being a panic buy by Spurs on the last day of the window when Liverpool had beaten us to both Mane and Wijnaldum in that transfer window (and Liverpool signed both players lovely and early in that summer window as well).

Yeah.... I just don't think anyone can say with any accuracy that a good first half is down to Stellini and Mason and a bad second half is down to Conte. Could be the case but equally could be the other way round or (more likely) all down to either Conte or Stellini and Mason.

95k is what was reported at the time iirc


Agree on him being a panic buy.

Edit : Sportek have him as 80k and another site that came up on Google says 95

Isn't it all pointless what we paid him? High salaries don't guarantee good work, I'm sure we've all worked with overpaid co-workers in any sphere.
