Yep. That was my original thought. I guess “integrity” only works in one direction. More likely they are just making a point and being deliberately difficult.
Dangerous game to play when you're up to your necks in it.

Seems their arrogance is blinding them to how they're coming across.Dangerous game to play when you're up to your necks in it.
Response from middlesbrough

We are aware of Chelsea's request to have Saturday's Emirates FA Cup sixth round tie played behind closed doors and find their suggestion both bizarre and without any merit whatsoever.
All concerned are well aware of the reasons Chelsea have been sanctioned and that this has nothing to do with Middlesbrough Football Club.
To suggest as result that MFC and our fans should be penalised is not only grossly unfair but without any foundation.
Given the reasons for these sanctions, for Chelsea to seek to invoke sporting "integrity" as reason for the game being played behind closed doors is ironic in the extreme.
We currently await formal notification from the FA of the next steps but rest assured MFC will resist Chelsea's actions in the strongest terms.”
Unfortunately, it appears as if they’ll get a new owner and will be better off than they were this season. I fudging hate Chelsea. How the rich cheats can prosper no matter what they do.
Within government I am told by one senior source that there is "exasperation" at what was described to me as a "tin-eared request" by Chelsea to play the match behind closed doors. Officials feel they are bending over backwards to allow Chelsea to play with a special license when other businesses in similar circumstances would not have received such assistance, and that they have been listening to the club's concerns.
But the feeling within Whitehall is that Chelsea are now trying to penalise other clubs for the predicament that they are in, and are mystified they are prioritising tickets and travel arrangements. I am told Chelsea wanted more than 4,000 fans at Middlesbrough rather than the 500 they were due to have, and that this is seen as "throwing their toys out of the pram" at the first opportunity.

From BBC sports editor Dan Roan
Seems that Chelsea are antagonising the government officials who are trying to help them. Extremely dumb.
Ministers are becoming increasingly irritated with Chelsea’s complaints about the restrictions imposed upon them as a result of sanctions, warning that the club was on “borrowed time” and would have collapsed entirely without the government’s special licence.
One senior government source suggested that after years of benefiting from Abramovich’s ownership the club was paying the price and needed to realise the gravity of its plight. “Any entity can fail,” they said. “The club is owned by Abramovich and without government intervention it would be out of the football pyramid.
“Chelsea needs to realise they are on borrowed time unless they can change their owner. When you are on borrowed time should you be pretending nothing happened and complaining about offering corporate hospitality? Or worrying about just getting through the season.”
Yeah right. however I could see a stand off between government and PL over this, If the bid were to be taken seriously. Pl wary after the Saudi Sportswashing Machine deal. Gov wanting it to go through. Gov to win of course.
