Ben Davies

I haven't seen the interview, but apparently there is one with Gray where he says Davies talked him through the full game.

That's great leadership from him, and something we have been missing.
He was quite clearly acting captain on the pitch, even though Son had the armband

Was great today.

I feel guilty for panning Ben for most of his career with us. But now...a mature squad player. He's deeply appreciated. So long as he is not playing all season, he is a model pro. And he does play at an elite level for short periods. He can up his game and give it all. But over more than about 5 games, the cracks appear.

Just impressed with his cameos. Loyal servant too.

He's always been pretty reliable for us, I reckon he'll move into coaching when he retires. Seems to be that sort of player.

the best defenders mark space first so that they don't have to get involved much.
ben is very predictable and invites pressure on himself and the team a lot. yeah he may clear lots of them but i certainly prefer grey for his ability side step a or commit a player so that his pass can be comfortably received without pressure
Think you underestimate him on the ball mate. He's not as good on the ball as Romero and Gray, but clearly better on the ball than Dragusin and imo at least equal to VdV in that regard.

Played loads of really good, useful passes again now when back. Makes fairly consistent good decisions.

i will agree that he had a good game at brentford but its because we defended in numbers

last game vs leicester he could have prevented both goals -

the first one was to slow to cut off the cross and missed the cross for a n easy tap in

the second he stood off the striker. straddling backwards for about 2 seconds inviting the shot and goal.

he is only CB because we have no better. recall he started in LB which was probably best position but had a torrid time against faster wingers

Here's a question.

So Ben Davies has/had a 1 year extension trigger clause in his contract meaning he could be a Spurs player again in the 25/26 season.

Back in November, it seemed that there were reports that we were going to trigger that extension, but I can't seem to find any evidence that we actually did. When we triggered Sonny's it seemed to be all over the official website. I can't see the same for Davies.

Normally, these extensions are triggered before 31-Jan. I'm not sure whether that is contractual but it seems they're always announced in Jan.

Anyone? Is Davies confirmed for the roster next season?

I think the default is he's still leaving at the moment. He maybe wants to do two more seasons full pelt at somewhere like Swansea. Or maybe he fancies a bit of sunshine in Serie A or La Liga. Or maybe he wants to see who the new manager will be before deciding.

I think he'll be back with us in another capacity after that.

Yeah, such a smart guy and could be anything from a coach all the way up to chief football officer in my opinion. He speaks way too much sense to be a pundit though. Hope he doesn't sell his soul and just become another sensationalist.

Perhaps this now means that Phillips and Vuskovic will be fully fledged first team members next season.
