Bale. Could we? Would we? Should we?

I feel his injury record is over stated and of course all discussion regarding Bale relies on a hypothetical scenario where the money side is agreeable to both sides.

A 30 year old attacking player who has won the biggest prizes in football in recent years with big performances in key games along the way being available to a club in our position - there isn't even a question as to whether you'd want a player like that in your team afaic

He has started around 52% of games (average) every season for the last 6/7 years.

I dont think his injury record is over stated at all. In fact I think people willfully ignore it.

Even in his prime he was extremely prone to injury, and at 30 thats only ever going to get worse - not better.

Very much like Lamela, it is proven that you just cant rely on him to be available (and available when you really need him).

Considering the investment, and the virtual guarantee of his declining powers, I dont think its that obvious a deal as some seem to think.

How many games he was fit and available for is the stat you need ....not your one.:)

Its a fair point, and this season he has definitely been benched - but in seasons prior if he has been fit he has got appearances.

EDIT: And, lets be honest, chances are if he played a game where in actual fact he was left out, he probably would have got injured ;)

Always been a big fan of his but let's face it he was on the bench for a reason. Remember watching several games last season when he was just not at it. Off the pace, struggled to keep position and/or find his passes. Even the most talented have their off-days.

But then he came up with that amazing worldy performance in the CL final. What price that eh?

But this becomes interesting IF there are no other takers, because you can bet your bottom dollar Levy will hammer all this home to Real good and proper.

I can almost hear the conversation now.... 'Honestly Guv, we're doing you a favour taking this clapped out liability off your hands...!'

They'll be paying us to take him by the time Danny Boy gets done :D

Is that league games or all Real Madrid games (as I would imagine they play more games overall each season than just about any club?).

I would be happy if we took him on loan for 1 year without paying any fee to Real Madrid with us contributing up to 40% of his wages. We could then concentrate all our efforts on a central midfielder and a new right back. The problem is I can't see Madrid going for that deal.

In saying that having paid a bit of attention to Sessegnon's youtube highlights from last season, I thought there were some real similarities there to a young Gareth Bale. Eye catching acceleration, a very good left foot that the player massively prefers to use but also being very capable with the other foot as well, good dribbling and plays with his head up. I had previously thought that Sessegnon would be converted to a left back, but having watched his highlights reel I think, like Bale, he may end up far too effective in attack to be wasted in a deeper position. Like Bale I think he may end up starting on the left but ending up playing from the right or even through the centre.

Where Sessegnon misses out though is physique. Bale has the natural frame to be pretty much the perfect footballer shape. Sessegnon is a good 3 inches shorter and nowhere near as broad shouldered. He'll build as he gets older, but he can't change his underlying shape, which is quite slight.

That's not to say he won't be a very good footballer, he probably will. Just that he won't be what Bale is.

Agreed. Sessegnon is probably only 5’11” or so. I do think he has the makings of a quite powerful physique though, although not as powerful as Bale and without his height. He also appears braver than Bale was at a similar age.

I remember Saha at Fulham looking average height at best.., went to United and wore their kit and looked a big unit
