Apple TV

ahhh ok - still no fudgein idea - what is a refresh rate? what the fudge? proper brick teacher you are

so mine is pretty brick I suppose if higher = better.

It's the rate at which your screen is 'refreshed' with data per second (invisible to the naked eye but notable through a digital camera for example). Point your cellphone camera to your PC screen and you'll see a constant flicker. The slower that 'flicker' is - the more tired your eye would become eventually (long shot) and less smoother the picture would be.

It is really more of a marketing tool than actual practical output since your TV cannot add more detail to the incoming source footage (you cannot 'add' what isn't there) and most likely you're receiving stream at 60 - to 120Hz anyway. Similar to exporting images to 600DPI when your printer can only print up to 150DPI - i.e. pointless. Higher refresh-rate sets 'manufacture' their extra frames from existing footage anyway and anything over 400Hz for me is overkill.

Don't panic, your TV is fine - have some KFC

I had some yesterday whilst putting my new concept2 rower together.

TODAY brick hits the fa and im gonna train my butt off.

The new version was released a few weeks ago, new processor, full 1080P output, etc..

I've had the old version and the got the new one too and it's really decent. I've pretty much stopped buying Blu-Rays now as just plonking my arse on the sofa and renting them on Apple TV is so convenient. Streams everything like music, films, TV shows, (Porn :D ) etc., that I have stored on my Mac.

You can also jailbreak them really easily with aTV Flash if you don't want to be tied in to just Apple stuff.
fudge, just my luck

In that case, I'd say - worth a punt, Leeds.

Just remember - before streaming from your iTunes library - movies have to be converted first

Not if you jailbreak it, which is very easy. However, right now there is no jailbreak available for the latest versions. IÔÇÖd give it a few weeks though and itÔÇÖll probably be ready.

Take a look at http://firecore.com/atvflash-black for more about this.

Thanks mate but, I don't believe in jailbreaking (or tunning up cars in general) - have a fundamental / prinicpal probelm with that.

Their phones are awesome

It's a budget phone but the Samsung galaxy europa is actually a crock of brick. It unlocks itself and sends random gibberish text messages to my friends as well as gibberish Facebook updates. Not only that but the text messaging format and language seem to change at random of their own accord!!

i love my apple tv, only thing i ever use for movies and tv shows

also i've never had to convert anything in my iTunes library to play on the apple tv first, but i do buy all my stuff from iTunes anyway so it should bloody work shouldn't it

Only trouble with going apple is that if you ever change format it becomes a pain in the arse

All of these types of products are massively overpriced - AppleTV, WD Live, etc.

Get yourself on the waiting list for a RaspberryPi - ?ú30, a large SD card - <?ú5, and XBMCbuntu - ?ú0.

you say that, but you have to factor in the setup time, an apple tv for example takes 10 mins from box to browsing the iTunes store, it depends on what your time is worth i suppose

Admittedly Linux is normally a massive pain in the arse, but XMBC is pretty spastic-proof.

Ok I need help please

a) I just got my new LCD and the pic is a touch blurry - im using a scart lead from my virgin box. It seems that the HD channels are much blurrier and lesser quality than normal definition. Will HDMI improve the picture and sound quality?

b) I intend on connecting my macbook to the tv - which lead do I need? Whatw ill it enable me to do for example could i use my keyboard? Will the tv show what im doing on my macbook etc.

Thanks techie geeks.
