Anyone remember that Bale chap?

Gareth Bale has admitted he was burdened by being the main man at Tottenham.

The Wales international’s stunning form for Spurs earned him an £86million summer move to Real Madrid which his old club do not appear to have recovered from.
Despite reinvesting the money they got for the forward, Spurs are struggling for form and last week sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas.

The goals of Bale - 26 in total - helped the Portuguese rebuild his reputation last season after losing his job at Chelsea, but without the 24-year-old this time around, the flowing football dried up.
But Bale, 24, has continued to impress in Madrid after a slow start and on Saturday admitted to enjoying sharing the responsibility with his fellow players.
‘They lead by example. If you ever want to talk to them they’re always there to listen. It’s great to play alongside them because they’re world-class players too,’ he told the Daily Telegraph of his Madrid team-mates.

‘At Tottenham I was always trying to get onto the ball and make everything tick, whereas here everybody’s doing that, there are world-class players all around the pitch and you’re able to concentrate just on your game rather than bringing the whole team forward, and I’m enjoying that.’

Bale also revealed he settling into his new life in the Spanish capital - and wants to see more British players make the move.

‘Every day I just try to concentrate on football and don’t worry about the club I am at,’ he told The Sun.
‘I only worry about what I’m doing. And the only pressure I have to deal with is what I put on myself. That’s the main thing for me.
‘It’s a bit different from playing for Southampton or Tottenham — and I am enjoying it and getting more used to it every day.
‘I’d encourage more British players to go abroad. There’s no right or wrong age to do it.’

Well in the summer all the talk was that the board were prepared to make a push and bring in players to get him to stay but he still wanted off. I guess he is just enjoying playing with better players i do not blame him for that.

If we had not been playing everything through him it is likely his stock would not have raised so high and Madrid would not have wanted him as just a pure left winger with a good free kick.

Sherwood said the other day about the best players for a club being home grown ones because they care more, well i think he would have a point that we might get more loyalty from the likes of townsend, carroll, livermore or caulker(miss him) if they had turned world class then players with no long term connection to the club

If that's a true statement, then maybe Mr Bale should remember who provided him with the platform to get his wonderful move to Madrid......

Do we miss him? Not many! We should never have let him go. Forced him to stay, which we could do. He was under a long contract. Just like Liverpool have done with Suarez.

Just to add insult to injury; who thrashed who in their own back yard last Sunday? And who was instrumental and captain that day?

After Carrick, Berbatov and Modric we should have learnt our lesson. We clearly have not.

That's a mischievous headline that does not accurately reflect what Bale actually said. Slimy stuff from the Mail, what a shock.

It's easy told hold onto a player when you only receive derisory bids. If Real had gone all out on Suarez rather than Bale, it would have had the same outcome and we'd still have Bale. Bastards!

Doesn't say he was tired of it either! He might have liked being the main man.
Couldn't blame him though it its true.

Regarding Suarez if he keeps up this form Liverpool will get theirs this summer. While we had a valid hope that a level headed guy like Bale might have considered staying at the Lane we all recognise the pulling power of Madrid etc. there will be a lot of shocked scousers when they learn they not in the same league as Madrid, Barca, Bayern even if they win the prem.

Bale basically said that at Spurs he found himself trying to make things happen, whereas at Madrid everyone is the same so it's easier. Massively misleading headline, but then thats what journalism is about

It could just as easily be reported as 'Real Madrid isn't a team, just a bunch of individuals', but British media have little interest in pursuing that line.

Despite what he says here I reckon he quite liked being the man and misses it. Just as we do. He's still developing as a player and could well be a huge player for RM in the coming years.

Hey, he developed into our Superman, how much did RM pay for him again ? But there is a salient point here, players attitudes and mentality.

Our players our technically up there, but mentally and attitude wise ? Still not matured there, take up the mantle of responsibility to stamp authority in the game. We've lost a lot of players, through selling, that grew up with us. If reports are true, we will see our top European scorer go too.

I see nothing wrong with what he said and agree the headline is totally misleading.

I suspect he finds pluses and minuses. Being the main man is great when all is working but can become a burden. Having the high quality team-mates removes that burden so perhaps he enjoys a more relaxed time, not to mention less double and treble teaming. On the other hand if he goes through a bad patch the pressures at Madrid will be big enough in their own way.

can we change the title of this thread to "Daily Mail in misrepresentation of former players comments to increase sales at time of club difficulties" shocker

Really couldn't care less about Bale. I don't will him to fail but I don't punch the air when he scores anymore and I certainly don't want Real Madrid to win anything this season.

I see what he is saying..but he should not have said it.

What does he gain? He has given me and I suspect a few more Spurs fans the hump.

Agreed.

The press will amplify anything anybody says about us right now. If people care they should remain quiet.
