Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

King wasn't key anymore unfortunately. Modric gave us a nice wedge of cash to re-invest into the team (positive outlook on it I know) and VDV's departure was the Manager's choice. Parker won't get in ahead of Sandro and may well be off in January. Kaboul and Ekotto won't plug the leaks at the back as both of them are of a similar ilk in that they are good offensive defenders but not so good at defending. Dembele is a loss but we even without him we should be seeing off the likes of Wigan, Norwich, QPR much more comfortably than we have been.

We've seen in the past that replacing a key player like Modric will take some time.

Ekotto would allow Vertonghen to move back into the centre without having to play Naughton at left back. And Ekotto is a very good player himself imo.

The injury problems so far this season have been real and have been more severe than in previous season, that might not be an excuse, but it can be part of an explanation.

Agreed.

'Key' or not King was first name on the team sheet whenever fit to play and is a loss for the team, a loss which becomes more noticable considering we are also missing our other first choice CB from the last couple of seasons in Kaboul.

Whichever way you want to spin it you cannot escape the fact that we have had our spine totally gutted from the past x amount of seasons :

2 CB's
2 CM's
1 AM
1 CF

A mammoth loss for any side, let alone ourselves who don't have much squad depth to speak of, anyone trying to make light of this situation really needs to take step back and actually look at what we are missing

No, it wasn't Moonlit Knight

You can register 150 different usernames and repeat the same thing - but he left for familiy reasons - not because AVB thought it was brick (bearing in mind he signed the likes of Sigurdsson and Demspey!)

AVB did NOT sign those two - I refuse to believe he fudgein did. If he did then he is a brick judge of player.

Even if the above were all 100% irefutable, surely the fact that it's all happened at the same time must mean that the combined impact is greater than the individual impacts you've listed above?

Wonder if it's the original Push and Run.
He dated back before MK ever turned up IIRC

I'd say we are looking for excuses. Losing away to Arsenal, City or Saudi Sportswashing Machine isn't a disgrace by any means but the performances against weaker teams hasn't been great. Especially considering the majority of the team is still made up of players who were here last season, so we can't blame a team shake up either in my opinion.

I think losing VDV is more of a blow than Modric, but I have faith in AVB and he must have a plan as he was happy to let him go. I think the problem hasn't been changing for personnel, it's that we are in transition due to a change in system when we don't really have the players to fit that system yet. Will be an interesting transfer window in January.

Agreed? Howard Kaboul and Ekotto not better than the current players in their respective positions at defending?

Ekotto is, based on the fact we don't have another natural left back at the club. Kaboul? I don't think he is as good at defending as either Dawson or Gallas. In the same manner as Walker in my opinion Kaboul put in a lot of average performances last season that people seemed to get very excited about.

I agree. VDV leaving was a massive loss for us and I think the plan to replace him and Modders involved Moutinho and Dembele, but it didn't quite work out. Dempsey was a panic buy to fill a hole that also has not really worked. He's not a good hole filler.

Fair enough. That's your view. Kaboul has been one of our better defenders for some time now, and I know who I'd rather have

The biggest problem I have with Kaboul is that unless he plays alongside Gallas he just seems to be all over the place. Dawson and Kaboul as a partnership is especially poor and yet Dawson pairs most other centre halves OK.

I think you're probably right. Dembele and Sandro are meant to sit deep and Moutinho was our preferred target to play alongside them. VDV isn't the type of player that suits AVB's system so I think letting him go was good business for all parties concerned. I miss him though because we really do lack creativity.

King? Dawson and Kaboul have barely played together since Kabouls return. His first spell was a disaster but he's not the same player at all

What's this I hear about AVB saying we dominated the entire game on Saturday?

First 20 minutes, we were the better side without question. But after that it was a disaster!

fudge it, Kaboul, Dawson, Gallas are brick, Vertonghen will be brick in a couple of weeks, we might as well give up! they are not brick, our full backs are brick and so are our forwards, I give up.
