A solution to our rught-side balance issue with Lennon out?

I'm wondering if Harry blames Niko for some of the Arsenal debacle and wont trust him there now. Like some of us posters I suppose.

I did see hm make a tough tackle or two (as he did against Liverpool, which is still up there for me among some of this season's big shocks:eek:)

When we played Kranjcar at RM against Arsenal, the half ended 2-2.But hey,he still gets most of the blame here because people here like to blame players who are not fast.See Corluka or VdV for example.

And yes,if Lennon is out,Kranjcar should definately be playing at RM,the matches against Liverpool and Saudi Sportswashing Machine at home are the best matches we have played all season and in both of them Kranjcar was in the starting lineup. The Bolton one was also very very good and Liverpool away was a very gutsy display, with Kranjcar playing the pass of the game but unfortunately Bale couldn't finish the chance.

And which of our wonderful perfect fit RW options would you pick instead?

This is my biggest complaint about the staff right now. When we HAD Lennon fit, we did not start him in the game which could've ended their season and sealed our top 4 spot. We now DON'T have him fit, yet we PERSIST with square pegs and round holes.

So the solution is surely to pick a side and formation which played to our available squad strengths. Why have we not been practicing 4-3-3? Why have we not been practicing 3-5-2 (a system I personally believe we could MURDER people with if we actually developed a strategy)...

let's look at a 3-5-2 option for Sunday...

Brad

Gallas Kaboul Ekotto

Parker
Walker Modric Bale

VdV

Ade Saha

reverse the final three if you want, have Ade as the point and VdV and Saha playing off him, but given how we really cannot get balance, rather than trying to manufacture it, put out a side which plays to strengths and allows VdV and Modric license to roam...

If you were feeling really cautious, go for Livermore and Parker as deep/holding/patrolling midfielders and just have VdV and Ade...personally, I think the line-up above could work, especially in matches like this weekends when we have to play to OUR strengths...

Alternately, 4-3-3 (a formation I don't think is great but which injuries dictate we should at least have been preparing to use properly rather than half-heartedly like at the deathstar)...

Brad

Walker Kaboul Gallas Ekotto

Parker

Livermore Modric

VdV Ade Bale

Again, the narrowness doesn't thrill me BUT it's better than trying to manufacture pace and balance...I suppose a 4-4-2 with Niko on the RIGHT might be OK, but we cannot keep on fudging about with the Bale/benny combo or Luka in the middle as it's costing us matches...

I would really look to Livermore in a few of theses games...I think we need to cultivate some local spirit, some Norf London pride; the lad comes from the terraces and is a very decent player. I think right now I'd give him the nod over Sandro until Sandro discovers full-fitness/form...I personally believe very very strongly in Jake...

Discuss?

I don't think it was Niko's fault at all, sadly though, i don't think Niko's can cut it out there for the game we want to play. He can play in the middle if necessary, but he simply isn't fit enough or sharp enough right now to play right-wing/midfield (not his position of course)...as for who takes the blame there, it's harry all the fudging way!!!!!! He needed to go 4-5-1. Should've done it at kick off, didn't, saw it even at 2-0 up, didn't make the right changes, and then at HT, he goes 4-3-3. No mate, it wasn't Niko's fault ever...

No, just because he's fast doesn't mean he'll be a good winger. Even with his ridiculous speed he very rarely ever gets past anyone.

Just play Kranjcar. The team has actualy gained better results with him on the right this season than it has with Lennon, small sample size I know but people seem to just be ignoring it.

If that is a genuine stat I will stand corrected. Would love to see it. For me, Aaron Lennon on the right, Gareth Bale on the left, Luka Modric in the middle with Parker and VdV in the hole off Ade has been the cornerstone of our best performances and results. I refuse to believe that Niko on the right has gained better results than Lennon there...I'll need proof! ;-)

IMHO we need to understand that the 5-0 over Newcash had several mitigating factors, not the least of which was they did not have Tiote or Cabaye, massive players for them this season, and their manager came down and played 4-4-2 going toe-to-toe despite missing his central midfield. That game was fun, but even at the time we must've recognized it was against a weakened side who lost their shape and bottle...

Pardew did exactly what we served up at the Emirates

4-4-2 with inferior midfield, Krunchie the tourist ahead of Lennon (the reason why he played Bale out of position 2 weeks later!!) tracking back their sprinters and 2 strikers who never pressed back.

Perhaps we should play Kyle Walker on the right wing?
Ok, his final ball is often worse than Lennon's but he could probably do a job and get up and down the line and defend when neccesary.

This means moving someone else to right-back. I thought Kaboul could play there, but then with Dawson out that might leave King a bit over-exposed.

So, step forward William Gallas (BTW, When is he back??)

Thoughts?

Had we not loaned out Charlie, I would definately go for:

Corluka.............King.................Kaboul................BAE

Walker................Modric.............Parker.................Bale

..............................VDV/Defoe......Ade

Its the nearest side to what we've been playing, despite the fact that Corluka is slower at RB. Walker will still have his defensive instincts, and I think the cover there would be fine.

I think Walker is better than people give him credit for going forward, and with an accomplished RB behind him, Id be happy. The rest of the team also stays balanced.

However, without Charlie, Id just play Krancjar or Gio RW, and leave everyone else where they are. Harry will never play 3 at the back......will he?

Kyle walker is a right back. He isnt gareth bale, he should not be allowed to play in midfield.

He is most effective coming forward as a full back

It would almost be worth playing him there for 45 minutes just so no one would ever suggest it again. Like that time VDV played in central midfield to disastrous consequences.

In addition to that, Glen, his delivery is nothing short of attrocious so he needs to rapidly improve in that regard to even be considered as a wide outlet. RB is a far better option for now.

Having said that - his defensive game has certainly improved since August so I'm very optimisitc as far as his passing is concerned. Luckily he's got age on his side

Kyle Walker is a person who runs fast who happens to play right back. Good thing he has his pace or he would be a bench regular at Sheffield Sunday.

Play Walker at right wing and bring back Bentley as right back. They cancel each others brick sides out. Walker can now do a defensive job as a wing and get credit for helping out helpless Bentley at right back. Bentley can go on overlaps and maybe get passed a player once in a while and deliver a good cross, something that Walker can't do to save his life. It's the old flip'it to win'it taq'tic, and you saw it here first.

This isnt about moving him for the sake of it.

What in your opinion has worked so well recently you wouldnt even consider it?

Id only do it with Corluka

This, as i have said earlier we slag Rednapp off for playing players out of posistion ( Modric, Bale, VDV, Sandro) and now we want to play another player in a different posistion, Round pegs in square holes yet again.

Rounds pegs in round holes and stick to what we know:

Walker is a RB - keep him at RB
Bale is a LW - keep him at LW
Modric is a CM - keep him at CM
We play 4-4-2 - stick with 4-4-2

That means that its either Krancjar or GDS on the RW til Lennon is back. Thought Bentley had had his loan cancelled due to injury??

Walker isn't really particularly good at crossing the ball and his close control is atrocious compared to Lennon's. Quite often now, he'll steam up, enter the opposition half and then not really know what to do.

We need to stop changing things around because one player is injured. Walker at rb. Bale at lw (and stay there). Modric in the centre. And whoever Redknapp wants (VDV, Kranjcar, GDS, Sandra) on the right. Only the one player out of position please.
