The trouble is people appear to over inflate our standing as a club the past decade or so just because we have had great starting XIs at various points - we aren't one of the big clubs in the league in the way that United/Liverpool/City & Chelsea are, we're in the best of the rest category and have been punching above our weight, these clubs have transfer spends that put us to shame and wage bills that dwarf ours which gives them deeper/more experienced squads better able to manage domestic cup runs whilst competing in the league & Europe
- Everton are the most comparable club to us over the last decade in terms of financial backing and even then they are probably above us in both wages and net spend yet we're supposed to be picking up trophies like the teams way above us (and them)

Kinda been a victim of our own 'success' in that had we just performed at our rightful 5th/6th level then weirdly I'm not sure this talk of underachieving would be so prevalent - see the lack of talk of Evertons trophy dodgy exploits these past few years.

Not sure anyone expected us to pick up trophies at the rate the rest of the big 6 do/did. But we were hopeful that we would get at least one. All about opinions, but I can’t believe we didn’t win anything with the players we had under Redknapp and later under Poch.
