Despite what i said on the transfer section to DHSF i would have serious trouble supporting a tottenham side with suarez in it, would be funny to tinkle arsenal off though.

I didn't mind Real Madrid a couple years ago but after the Modric and Bale sagas they can do one. It's like (bar Chelsea and Arsenal) I would rather sell him to anyone but Madrid. The same with that c*nt Zidane as well.

I also hope he doesn't leave the same way Modric and Berbatov did. I wouldn't mind him leaving for the right price but if he forces the move I will forever think of him the same way as I do about Modric and Berbatov. He can leave this summer and still be a considered a Tottenham legend so I really hopes he keeps his mouth shut about everything.

I will try to explain a little around how we gather stories such as these ones,
but I hope you understand I cannot go into specifics around the story you
mention.

Before I say anything, I will say that my editorial standards, and those of the
BBC, are a huge priority, getting stories correct and double checking that they
are correct is extremely important in my day to day work.

In terms of stories like the Bale one and many others you will see, I often
get asked why there are no quotes to support what it is we write - proof, if you
like, that the story is true.

Increasingly, sports journalism and broadcasting has to rely on off the record
briefings from football clubs, agents and even players. These are instances when
you are given information from one of these sources on the understanding it is
off the record and not able to be attributed to the source, or quoted in any
way. So while we know the story is true, we may know that a club or player feels
a certain way or is trying to sign a certain player, we cannot provide a quote
within our story to support that.

This has always happened to some extent, but it is certainly on the rise as
clubs, players, governing bodies and many other facets of sport and football use
this technique in their dealings with the media.

Clubs themselves don't' always want to reveal the sensitive nature of
negotiations and talks behind the scenes, while other clubs in those same
negotiations may not feel as cagey about revealing information. That is where a
clash can occur.

I hope that goes some way to explaining why you might see information in our
stories that is not supported by quotes, but I can assure you the content is
checked and double checked to make sure it is correct.

I hope you continue to stick with our football coverage in the future, because I
promise that you can rely on our dedication to make sure our stories are correct
and trustworthy.

Lets be honest neither player would want to join us.
That the problem with the 100m offer.
We'd be stuck paying over the odds for 2nd tier players with it.

Afterall they havent fully paid up for Modric so its around 115m deal.

Although a thoughtful reply, it's still a shambles from a journalistic perspective. If you have certain information from a source, then even if you can cannot provide quotes, your story should read, "According to one well-placed source close to the club...." or "Spanish media are reporting....." You do not simply recite what you are reporting as fact.

Precisely. The only sensible thing to do with £100m transfer fee would be to stick it in the stadium fund. Unless we want to pay £26m for McManaman and £44m for Michu.

It is no different to a lot of political coverage which widely relies on off the record briefings.

I wonder if the potential Bale sale is already encouraging clubs to up the price for players that we want. The selling clubs know that we have a potential £80m+ on its way.

RM could have bought Cavani and Rooney with that amount. More importantly they could have bought Cavani and had serious change for a defender or two.

Of course RM are going to bid that for Bale:ross:
