Pre Season Thread

We don’t NEED 7 gone though. We have one too many goalkeepers, one too many CBs and one too many central midfielders. So only need 3 gone.

There are at least 7 players that are needed to be gone in order to cull players that are not of the quality needed. That 7 was based on your should be sold, which didn't include Richy and or Solanke, both who need to be moved on within the next year IMO.

I am not saying NEED as in finance or we are all going to turn to stone should they be here when the season starts, my NEED is to say they are in the whole absolute dross that needs moving on.

There is still alot of work to do with this squad to realise ambitions of where everyone wants this club.

We’ll be top 7 next season with the current squad if we do no other business… Reality is we’ll still do some deals and I’d expect to be pushing those CL places with the squad at the end of the window. Which I think should be seen as par for this clubs ambitions.

Then from that platform you try and kick on again next summer..

I don't disagree at all

So: it looks like Bergvall is leaving. Bentancur may well stay. De Zerbi's comment on Vicario is surely a deflection, so difficult to judge how highly he values the likes of Sarr for example. Kudus may not be ready for the first few games of the new season. And we're still working on a top forward. Sounds pretty good.
What was it that was said that sounds like Bergvall is leaving? Quotes I saw said he needs to speak with him and then make a decision, was there more to it?

I think it's the way he started his answer that tells you a lot...

Listen, I was very clear at the start of my time in Tottenham. I said 'Who doesn't want to stay in Tottenham, who is not happy, is not proud to stay here, has to leave'. I want proud players who are happy to stay here and to go on the pitch at Tottenham Stadium with a big motivation. If you think also in the World Cup, the motivation makes the difference. The motivation is to be happy to stay in one team.

I have not spoken with Lucas yet, I will in the next days.

So, as I say, we don’t NEED to then. None of the players in the sell list are “absolute dross”. All will have numerous suitors at the right price. If some of them stay then it doesn’t hurt us at all.

Romero probably was one of the best 5 CBs at the World Cup. If he stays then he probably starts for us and makes us better. Otherwise a sale price of about £40m would see a number of suitors.
Nobody would be upset if Bergval stays (and as an under 21 he doesn’t even take a squad space). Also we’ve already had a bid of close to £50m for him, he is one of the easiest sales to make ever.
Sarr is perfectly adequate cover, though I expect he’ll want to go to get more games. He’d have plenty of suitors around the £20m mark.

That leaves Vicario, Solomon, Scarlett and Phillips….

Phillips is as good as gone to Middlesbrough already.
Scarlett we could just release if we wanted to (though I bet we get a couple of million for him).
Vicario is an easy sell to Italy if we happy to take about £15m for him. I suspect we’re just holding out for a deal above £20m
Solomon is the only difficult one I’d say.

We have the core of a good squad already and no Europe this season.

Yes, we still have a few bits and pieces to do…. However being at the stage where we only need two more signings at this stage of the summer is unheard of for us. I’d say we have less to do to be ready for the following season at this stage of the summer we have for many, many years. Perhaps even since the PL started.

We've got about 32 players in the squad who were named last season/played good minutes for spurs /new signings

that's not including Yang/phillips etc
A whole host of those are under 21s who don’t take a squad space. Another few are long term injured and won’t be named in the squad for the first half of the season. Look at the list I posted, where is the big problem do you think?

We absolutely need to not only move many of them on, but improve them over the next year if we are to meet anywhere near the ambitions we all have.

For where we want to be some of them absolutely are dross.

We are clearly coming from different angles on this, I don't think we are not ready for a PL season, my point is about where we are with some of the players and where IMO we need to be to be competing for trophies consistently, I don't think thats a radical take TBH

We probably still need a minimum of 2 more first XI signings in attack and then depending on who gets sold additional depth aswell.

Eg
If Spence goes a replacement back up RB
If 2 of our CMs go a replacement CM back up
If a CF goes a backup CF in addition to a starting CF

Selling CBs is the only area a sale will not need replacing (bar peripheral players)

Yeh, the worry for me is the total lack of depth out there in LW and Striker options areas now which are critical for the season.

I think there is a world where we struggle on LW and get Rashford TBH, not least because he can also play up top.

Looking forward to the match at 04.30 it fits almost perfectly into my pee schedule. I think it will be good preparation for this season, Auckland have had a good season and all antipodeans want to beat English teams and I expect them to test us.
As a few think Tel could play as our striker I would like to see him given the chance in Oz.
Wonder if DeZebri will change complete team at half time again?
I don't pay much attention to manager's pr sessions but totally agree with shifting out players who don't want to be here, whoever they are.

Not a player I would normally want at Spurs but he could add goals something we desperately need. Talk of finishing in top 8 with current squad is ridiculous.

I think a few clubs will have a look at Rashford towards the end of the window if they haven't been able to secure their first choice targets. He'd probably be our best LW option if he signed, though I'd hope we're targetting better.

He's better than Savinho for me

At present we have 8 central midfield options….

Tonali
Fernandes
Gallagher
Gray
Maddison
Bentancur
Bergval
Sarr

We will still have ample options even if two are sold, especially with no European football.
