Will Lankshear

Agree that this sort of sale is common in football, part of me is disappointed still. Is he the only player we have had who won that PL2 POTY award? Would have liked to see him do well at us but that’s true of all our players

The only player at the club who can finish elitely too. It's a very rare and sought after skillset he has.

According to Lyle and Bridge:

"Middlesbrough have agreed a club-record deal with Tottenham to sign Will Lankshear.

The total package for this transfer, including potential bonuses, means the fee could reach an eventual £20m, Sky Sports News understands.

The initial, fixed part is around £10m.

There is also a 20 per cent sell on clause and Spurs have matching rights on any bids from other clubs in the future.

The striker is due in the north east for a medical today.

The 21-year-old scored 11 goals in 44 Championship appearances while on loan at Oxford United last season. "
When he scored in the CL away at Galatasaray at just 19 I thought we were seeing a glimpse into the future. That we are selling him for me is a big disappointment.

Yeah, i do wonder why he didn't really feature after that game. It really felt like there was a sort of 'punishment' there for him that season for getting sent off in that game...

I am surprised that so many fans do not accept that MOST clubs move on most of the young players that come through. I have no idea if Lankshear will reach the top or not but the truth is that ALL clubs move on young players in the game.

BUt keep 4 if they want to have a full squad in Europe.

Listening to some of you, this guy is the next Kane, i assume Middlesborough outbid and paid more wages than all of these massive teams that should be in for him?

Really really like RDz
But this sale is Lange and the gang
A guess or fact?

Personally never saw enough in him to suggest he would be better then Solanke, good finisher but is all round game isn't there yet (neither was Kane's at that age mind you). I think it is a good fee for what is basically a risk, he may turn out good but he may turn out like most other youngsters as mid championship/lower prem level. We also have no idea if he wanted play time which forced our hand etc etc... All in All, can't say i'm too bothered on this one for now.

He's already more physical than Solanke, despite his age

We should just tell him he's one or our two main CFs, then buy in his competition. This should have been treated more like Kinsky

yea yea, Solanke was the star of the England youth team at the time before being snapped up by Liverpool etc. If you want to look at Lankshear fairly why dont we compare to one of ours:

PlayerTotal MinutesGoals ScoredMinutes per Goal
Dane Scarlett7854196.2 minutes
Will Lankshear2,88311262.1 minutes

Both for Oxford funnily enough. Or how about England U19 stats:

Head-to-Head England U19 Stats

Goals Scored123
Goals per Game Ratio0.860.60

You never can tell how a youth player will turn out, and potentially £20m for one who may be the next nothing, but a sell on clause + matching buy clause for me is pretty good business.

If I'd written a list of players to retain at all cost this summer, it would have looked something like:

1) Gray
2) Vuskovic
3) Simons
4) Bergvall
5) Spence
6) Lankshear
7) Porro
8) Moore
9) Udogie
10) Kudus

And about everyone else could have gone for the right price. But worryingly we are potentially selling at least numbers 2, 4, 5 and 6 from that list.

On what basis? You would have kept Spence no matter what before this world cup? He was never first choice for us. Bergvall is inconsistent, good moments but also not so good. Moore did ok for Rangers but hardly set the Scottish league alight. As for Vuskovic, yes he looked good in the German league but how did he do against international quality strikers? How did he do against England forwards? I will give you Gray, he has done enough for me in the first team to show he can go along way, so would be disappointed if he was sold. Simons/Kudus showed enough to warrant keeping, and Porro is one of the first names on the teamsheet. The rest, if the price is right, no reason not to improve on them.
