I appreciate all that Gallagher did for us last season in helping us stay up. He wasn’t the perfect player but scored key goals and worked hard for our survival. But I can’t see that he’s the answer now for our first team and not with the salary he is being paid.

I think he deserves a chance to be a first team player elsewhere. And he may be a better fit elsewhere. I do think his salary could be an obstacle to any potential move.

It be unfair to right off any player that’s signed in January to an extremely disfubctional team.

Long term is is Gallagher the answer at #10? No but we cannot rely on the fitness of the other 3 options.

I also firmly believe that Gallagher will be a more affront player when he’s not relied upon to be a creative player. In the team he played in last season he was the 3rd or 4th most technical player in our XI most games.

Now he is going to be in a team where he is playing in between JPVJ, Fernandes, Tonali, Kudus, Savinho & Solanke. He won’t be relied upon to create. He will be relied upon to hit the box late, press and overload on the midfield and attack which he is top tier at.

The two best spells of Gallagher’s career were on loan at Palace and the Poch season where he played mainly as a #10, I know it’s YouTube and you need to take those compilation videos with a pinch of salt but go and watch a couple from either period and he looks a much much better player than what we saw at the end of last season in what’s already been stated above a totally dysfunctional period.

He will do very well for us in the RDZ side in the same roles, we need variety and depth, he gives us that

Not all successful team play with a creative player in the #10 role. Klopp’s Liverpool and the Cheat$ki teams in particular come to mind. Both had enough creativity from the wings or deeper in midfield to not rely on a classic #10.

Should we be paying a squad player £200,000 per week? He is unlikely to be a first team player. I would think Maddison would play the #10 as he has more creativity and goals to him.

Isn't it a slightly mute point as we do pay him that

That’s why I think we have to be serious about whether his value at the club meets his wages and if not move him on.

Imagine first team players knowing we have a sub that earns £200k pw. Whilst we have relaxed our wage structure, we can’t afford to ignore it,

If De Zerbi has big plans for him then fair enough. Otherwise…

1. I don’t think he will be a squad player
2. We can’t rely on Maddison to stay fit and he’s on 175k

Which players would complain and we wouldn’t be happy to fudge them off?
