in the end, as long as you are tighter in defence, that is the style of play which wins trophies (Bilbao not withstanding LOL)

I think it's the style that can work to wins titles in this period of the game. I hope it is anyway. When I think back to Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Palace and Spurs trophies last season (the other 3 we were in) then clearly that low block, counter against teams like Pool and City worked for the cup winners. That, and PGMOL clearly denying City a deserved FA Cup win by ignoring the laws again.

There are clearly some common themes here between the refereeing and the style of football being played. I genuinely think more teams would try to play better football if PGMOL got their own house in order.

I've said to my son that our players should sometimes go down when under a tight press rather than making a rash pass but he counters with he has no confidence in getting a freekick, the results of a lot of games seem determined by the decisions (whims) of the officals more than ever.

I certainly concur that the subjective opinion of the referee is a major determinant in the results of matches. BTW, it's even worse in rugby union.

We need to get much better at diving.

I love Richie, he gets fouled a lot, but doesn’t sell it enough so the FK often isn’t awarded.

I want us throwing ourselves to the ground, screaming, crying, rolling, all that good stuff.

I've said this to big rugby fans but their rugby DNA won't let them call out the refs. What I notice with rugby union is that the referee can spend 80% of their time watching one team like a hawk. They can capture every indiscretion from that side whilst completely ignoring the same thing happening the other way round. So the game gets influenced by the referee's inability to be 50:50 in their approach.

Rugby is subtle. There's coming in from the side, the feet leaving the ground, being in offside positions and gaining advantage etc. There is a lot to spot for the refs but they have to be objective. So many aren't and just punish one team.

With football it's different. The ignoring of the laws is just blatant by PGMOL.

Anyway, back to Gallagher. Let's not disrupt this thread. Let's hope him and Souza are announced at some point today. Would be a good boost for everyone.

I do hope this is where Gallagher will give us some upside. Half the time we get a rough deal from the refs because we let them think it is OK. Other players (e.g. MgGinn at Villa) would never let that happen. When Gallagher hopefully starts a different narratives with the refs, then perhaps so will some of the others. We are buying a senior player.

Richy is one where when he fancies it, he is like an ox, when he isn't he just falls to the ground, I wouldn't even call it diving hahah, well it is, its jut sbad
