Transfer thread

I think it's a strange one because as an individual he's a decent enough player. But it will be viewed as an uninspiring signing by many because he's unlikely to make our football any 'prettier' for want of a better word. Not sure having him alongside Palhinha for example will help our football become any less turgid.

It adds some depth to a depleted area, let's see what Frank has in mind for how the midfield is going to look....
Agreed but that would be massively unfair on him, from those fans in terms of its not his job to make us prettier, but he will make us better.

We should always strive to improve and currently he would be straight into this side.

Not that being on here will change hearts and minds on a player, many would have made up their minds, but for me its at least a joint up move for someone I personally rate as a very very good player

Not blown away by this one personally, not really the passer, playmaker we’ve been craving. However he does add depth to an injury riddled CM and is pretty similar to MGW who seemingly was Franks first choice in the summer, so maybe we might see some long overdue semblance of an attacking plan with and without the ball from our manager if we get him?

What makes you say Gallagher is similar to MGW? If anything he's more Bentancur when he was good minus the through balls perhaps.

What is interesting if all reports are to be believed is him joining us instead of Aston Villa....

Yeah I don't mind him, just don't see him as an inspiring signing for the masses. I'm open to it as I don't doubt he is a good player, looking forward to seeing how Frank lines up with him, Simons and whoever else. I would view him as our John McGinn type who is very underrated....

think he’s best form at Palace was in the an all action AM position, similar to MGW now at Forest.

Don’t think I’ve ever seen him play in the DM / double pivot position Bentancurs been playing for us?

His role at palace was abit of a hybrid. Lead nearly every stat at Palace in every metric, was a ridiculous season TBH. Did some work as a defensive CM but was more a pressing advanced midfielder. Presses like a madman and is good at it.
He will be very good for Xavi IMO

Yea don’t get me wrong I don’t think he’s an out and out AM, but I think he’s much more that than a DM, I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen him play as the defensive / base of midfield. He’s more of a seek and destroy type with attacking instinct when he gets it. From what I’ve seen anyway.

Yeh, not disagreeing with alot of it, just wanted to give insight into Palace. I was lucky enough to see him play against Arsenal for WBA during covid at their place *sick, think big same was manager, anyway he ran the show, was unreal. Then he went to Palace and I got to see alot of him there and he just looked streets ahead on both sides most weeks.
I hope we see the player from Palace and the season he had under Poch, because at 40m its dirty cheap

I’m really pleased with this. Gallagher Instantly comes in as our best midfield player

Real shame we didn’t make this signing 18 months ago.
I think he's an upgrade on our other options for the more box to box role of the deep two. Assuming Frank allows him to make those forward runs enough of the time.

Think he's good enough on the ball to be a good combination player for Xavi in those advanced areas.

Not sure he adds enough ball progression to really make a difference in how we play through midfield for me to not see the midfield as unbalanced with him too though. How much do you see him adding to how we can progress through a high press and up between the lines more generally?

I'm not convinced by this, but perhaps more a style preference and me being real tired of our lack of a deep playmaker type and the lack of balance in midfield. Gallagher himself is a very good player.

He is very good at breaking the press with the ball, carries the ball well. Not saying he is the most durable and he isn't Wharton on the ball but he isn't a dunce. He has a good range of passing and has quality
