Thomas Frank - Head Coach

Just like how Postecoglou gifted Ipswich Town their first win last November so they could briefly escape the relegation zone because he already knew PL safety was assured, clearly Frank is taking a leaf out of the same book to get us CL football next season!

Can only wonder how different yesterday might've gone if we had Solanke, Kulusevski, Udogie and Maddison available plus a LW with the pedigree of Son...

Look at that bench as well

But we are holding our own in the league at least better navigating the CL better than when we decided to concentrate solely on the EC and divebomb the league in December, all that with the CL being a harder comp to navigate. So there is more than just a direct comparison to consider.

And not bringing manager names into it, one was at the end of his 2nd year, the other is at the infancy of his reign, so its comparing apples with oranges in that respect IMO.

The footballs poor at times, absolutely, but at least we are winning games of football at times. We won 4 games in 5 months with 13 losses in the league whilst concentrating on the EC. So yeh the players and lack of depth didn't help, but I actually think there is a level of admirability to Frank trying to get the most out of what we have in two forms of the game and not just concentrating on one.

Thats not to dig out Ange or become over protective of Frank, not that backing a new manager should be alien, but just to be clear.
All fair enough mate but we're on the decline - We had a generous fixture list for start of the season. Burnley, Wolves, Leeds, West Ham all in that first 8 games or so. Now the fixtures are evening out, we are 17th in the form table and the football is getting worse. There are worrying signs for me, signs that suggest rightly or wrongly he's not got the real buy in of the players. We didn't just lose to Forest, we got absolutely done by them and the worst part is this was just yet another tepid performance where we barely mustered up anything going forward.

It's not even where we are at positionally for me, sure we all want to win games and eventually a manager has to deliver on the results front. But first and foremost I want to see us playing a bit of football and we simply aren't, not even a little bit. It is just horrible - unless we can play Copenhagen and Slavia Prague at home every week of course....

And you may be right, but given the stats over the last few years in general under multiple managers there is something else at play here and its not just the management or some curse of the new stadium

The difference was you could see a style of play with Ange, with conte, with Poch. Some didn’t like it but it was there from day 1
What’s our style of play under Frank?
It’s can’t be wait until we have everyone fit because that’s not a palm that works for any manager
I would counter that, the style of play under Ange didn't in reality last for very long.

I don't feel the non football we play at times now is any worse than the non football we were playing before. Last season was the first I've not attended games because of the quality of football on display.

We didn’t change style of play until Everton away
We did change how effective it was and that was also due to changes in playing staff… that happens and isn’t an excuse
I did say at the time when he changed to 3 at the back vs Everton he gave the players that freedom to no longer trust in his plan/process/tactics
he did of course change tactics to win game win Europe which strangely showed that flexibility that most of us wanted to see in the league

Couldnt agree more. It starts from the very top, and the fans aswell. I'm not writing Frank off and in fact willing him to do well because he is so likeable. I don't think he's 'the one' but he's the horse that was backed and everytime am at the ground will get behind him. But I do think criticism of how we've been playing is fair....

Yup, apart from MvdV that was basically our strongest possible match day squad available for a home game against a team which finished the season on 22pts... which is the same as we're on currently... that apparently is our worse tally after 16 games since 2008 but actually only 1 point less than we had at this point last season... back when we had most of the first team available and weren't trying to integrate our 3rd choice creative midfielder signing who is expected to fill the void left by Maddison and Kulusevski whilst Tel and Odobert make us forget about Son.

I referring to how it actually manifested itself, not the intent behind it. The football we were playing wasn't attacking or exciting, defensively we were open. We spent large amounts of games struggling to progress the ball and then got hit to quick counters.

The effectiveness wasn't just in isolation because of who was avalible. There was also other teams dealing with it and exposing the weaknessess of it. As time went on, the weaknessess got more and more exposed.

Intent being the key word for me
What’s the intent now?
Impossible to say imo but I’d love someone to work it out … ideally frank

At other times you've said you like Frank because he can adapt his style of play!

Frank doesn't have one style of play, and can be flexible. As to what he is trying to implement now, he is simply trying to come up with a winning formula with what we have. And that is an attack that has been decimated from last season, that is low on confidence and familiarity.

Certainly not to defend inside the opponents’ half, be constantly caught on the counter and be made to look like a primary school team.

It’s inconsistent at the moment but I’d take moving towards the semblance of footballing normality we are currently seeing to the bizarre stuff (I can’t bring myself to call them tactics) we saw prior to that.

If only he coached an attacking way of playing
You know that Hutchinson and Igor Jesus weren’t at forest last season. They are new to the team.
What’s the reason for the inability to defend then?

You sure the stadium isnt cursed??
I’ve heard of magic voodoo….hidden football shirts … and of course noxious toxicity in the atmosphere
