Thomas Frank - Head Coach

We’ve been a bottom 6 club over the past 82 PL games stretching back 26 months, so it should come as no surprise that a couple of opportunistic signings haven’t suddenly transformed us into CL challengers.

Can't this be on the front page and updated weekly to aid the debates about what style of football we should be playing and what we're capable of or would be capable of with whoever in charge?

Ah yes, we are now using the we've been rubbish for ages excuse (@Bishop i exclude you from this as we have said for ages about squad quality). Well last season we was told it was the manager that was the problem, get in a 'proper manager' and low and behold we would be much better off. In fact several replied to me saying that our squad was over rated last season with this is a top 6 squad, then all of a sudden the benchmark was shifted to it being a top 10 squad - of which we can't even achieve at the moment, not that it's even about where we are positionally - it's about the 'football' if you want to call it that being played.

Then at the start of the season we played well against PSG, Burnley and our seasonal performance against Emirates Marketing Project and it's all 'See, this is what a real manager can do'. Absolute no mention about how poor the squad is at any stage.

Then fast forward a few weeks where his predictable football has been found out, and it's all about how bad the squad is. Looking forward to the next batch of excuses that roll up other than just stating the obvious - like it or not, this squad is not as bad as the football that has been consistently played and it's not been good enough. If it wasn't acceptable last season it's not acceptable now....

Not the old manager new manager debate again

This post needs to be quoted and reposted in every post a out our performances.

This is our truth the fan base just needs to catch up with reality.
Not arguing the overall point as I tend to agree with overall quality of the squad, but since the start of the 23/24 season there’s been 92 games, not 82. That table is skewed to remove the good start under Ange, what does it show if we include that?

I thought the point being made was we were better than 17th?

Maybe Frank knows we're mathmatically safe and is concentrating on the Champions League
Could easily find comments saying about where our squad should be but anyway, we are on a downward trajectory. Nothing to worry about with such a limp performance that is becoming the norm against the team who were sitting 17th of course....

Well out stats now show we should be 17th so we will likely swap places with them

Nope we can take the managers out of it - Simple fact is, if we agree the football last season was unacceptable then it certainly has been this season. Not sure can even call it a debate tbh....

The obvious difference was Ange had two seasons. Whereas some fans are ready to condemn Frank after a few months on charge, without our most important players in Kulu and Maddison.

Frank hasn't played any of them in competitive games. Two seasons of Ange-press, which was all about running, took their toll.
Ok
But they did get injured playing for or in training with Frank
I mean that’s a fact
I think the straws your clutching must be getting have now mate

Frank hasn't had these players available in one competitive game - "I mean that is a fact"

It is up to you whether you take that into consideration when appraising his performance as a manager. What has this got to do with straws or clutching! :D

Ange had nowhere near two seasons before people wanted him gone. And I don't want Frank gone, but it is pointless just saying give him time for the sake of it. Time for what exactly? People keep asking what is he trying to achieve, what football is he trying to play? And no one can answer, no one has a clue. It certainly looks like the players don't.

At the start posters were excusing the brick football because we were solid, now and for a couple of months we are conceding goals as good as we ever did. We can all say give him time as much as we want, the reality is what has been served up has not been good enough. We are on the decline, and the underlying stats look bad and by the end of the season they tend to reflect your standing and it's no coincidence we are sliding down the table right now. Frank must do better it's as simple as that....

Solanke played this season
That’s a fact … do you remember the city or Burnley games?
Maddison got injured pre season playing for Frank. That’s also 100% right
Injuries happen
If you think there’s some miracle season where a manager has his fully fit 25 players all season then I’d love to see it
A good manager adjusts to the players he has available. It’s literally what Frank did at Brentford when he had injuries

The difference was you could see a style of play with Ange, with conte, with Poch. Some didn’t like it but it was there from day 1
What’s our style of play under Frank?
It’s can’t be wait until we have everyone fit because that’s not a palm that works for any manager

But we are holding our own in the league at least better navigating the CL better than when we decided to concentrate solely on the EC and divebomb the league in December, all that with the CL being a harder comp to navigate. So there is more than just a direct comparison to consider.

And not bringing manager names into it, one was at the end of his 2nd year, the other is at the infancy of his reign, so its comparing apples with oranges in that respect IMO.

The footballs poor at times, absolutely, but at least we are winning games of football at times. We won 4 games in 5 months with 13 losses in the league whilst concentrating on the EC. So yeh the players and lack of depth didn't help, but I actually think there is a level of admirability to Frank trying to get the most out of what we have in two forms of the game and not just concentrating on one.

Thats not to dig out Ange or become over protective of Frank, not that backing a new manager should be alien, but just to be clear.

Just like how Postecoglou gifted Ipswich Town their first win last November so they could briefly escape the relegation zone because he already knew our PL safety was assured, clearly Frank is taking a leaf out of the same book to get us CL football next season!

Can only wonder how different yesterday might've gone if we had Solanke, Kulusevski, Udogie and Maddison available plus a LW with the pedigree of Son...
