Richarlison

I really hope our supporters can STFU and support the fudging player whilst he is in our shirt during this time when nature (???) has conspired to deprive us of TWO centre-forwards most likely through the New Year.
Get behind Richy.
He thrives on support, everyone knows it, everyone knows his mental health issues because he's been honest about, yet he's 'brick' or he's 'stealing goals from others' or it's his fault we gave up a point at home to Man U because he took his shirt off...FFS.

IS he good enough to be our CF? Probably not. Is he a decent player on his day? Absolutely. Do we need to help him find his day more often? Absolutely. Is this likely his final season here? I'd say so.

Get behind the bloke.

And also, get behind Scarlett because we are going to need him too!
Fully agreed.

Leaves everything on the pitch every time he plays. Doesn't hide even when struggling for confidence. Compared to most PL centre backs he's not particularly big or strong, but never shirks a duel.

We obviously also need quality. And particularly when low on confidence he doesn't exactly have that in abundance. But he is the player he is and he should get our support.

We've had "better" players letting us down (imo) in part through a lack of effort and professionalism. We've had worse players end up playing an important part in us winning games and even (rare as it has been in the last decades) trophies. Richarlison himself played an important part in us lifting the EL last season. He helped give us that experience. In part through some of those qualities I mentioned above.

I don’t think anyone doesn’t support him. It’s counter productive to not want your own players to succeed but we may need to upgrade on players if we want to be successful.

We need players who aren’t overwhelmed by playing
With Richy he always seems to be scared of the moment
And then when it happens he flips to the other extreme

Depends what we mean by support I guess.

Enough has been written about what footballers experience on social media. Does supporting mean wanting him to do well or does it mean cheering him on, singing songs supporting him and the team? Does support mean booing the team off at half time?

If the bar for support is "I want him to succeed" that's not much.

We can want him to succeed (and we all do I would expect). But wanting it and it happening are two entirely different things. I don't believe in chasing after proven lost causes with pure hopium (and with Richy that's all its ever been on here, hope), hope isn't going to improve touch, control, anticipation etc.

Support the player, give praise when they deserve it and by that I don't mean lower the standards so much that now achieving the absolute basic minimums are now seen as a triumph (Sissoko). If you accept mediocrity, you will be mediocre, its really that simple.

I don’t condone booing at HT. if you’re unsatisfied at the end of the game then boo the result. Richarlison has had plenty of support since we signed him. He’s got a song when many players don’t. Do you want us to adore a player that’s been below the required standard for 3 years? I don’t boo players but I’m not going to give them a standing ovation and pretend they’ve been great when they’ve given a 5/10 performance. I always appreciate effort but that in itself isn’t enough.

Supporting a player whilst they are here doesn’t mean pretending they’re good enough when they’re clearly not.

He will leave and we will upgrade. Supporting him until then rather than slagging him has no downside whatsoever.
I'm not against supporting and praising him when he does well (I've done the same when appropriate). I'm just not for the gaslighting where we pretend that something of low quality is better than it actually is.

As a fan base we need to move away from this meek acceptance of mediocrity. I don't know why we love to laud poor players and gas ourselves up into believing they are better than they really are despite what we can see with our own eyes but then gnash our teeth and complain when we aren't winning every game 3-0 and playing scintillating football. They are part of the same thing, if we want to be a top side, if we want to dominate teams, if we want to play brilliant attacking successful football then we need to actually shed this acceptance of the mediocre because in the short, medium or long run mediocre isn't going to get you anywhere.

We act as if these players are doing us a favour and we should be grateful they are willing to give us their precious time. 🤣

Real support is backing something during the brick times, not just being there when it’s good.

I imagine if you think about it, the same would apply to the people who support you in your own life.
