Just a thought here, but we always could have bought 2 or maybe 3 signature signings. However we always chose to buy 5 or 6

24/25 - Solanke, Gray, Odobert, Bergval, Kinsky. Yang - 185m Euros
23/24 - Johnson, Maddison, VDV, Porro, Kulu, Dragu, Vic, Veliz, Phillips - 272m
22/23 - Richarlison, Romero, Bissouma, Udogie, Spence - 180m

Once you remove the Kane money, we can see where the annual gross spending is. The other seasons we've perhaps scraped together about 50m in sales. In the season he left it was more like 120m.

This summer we've already followed a similar pattern - Kudus, Tel, Danso, Vuskovic, Takai - and are already at 140m Euro spend. I think we've had some back for Hojbjerg, Marcus Edwards and Cardoso (?).

So in a CL season, I can see us buying MGW and tipping closer to the 200m Euro mark.

Then if we carry on, without covering every other purchase with a few sales, the Wharton is a real possibility.

It's only after that do I think something bigger behind the scenes is happening at the club. Perhaps it is.
Indeed, and would make sense where now we are in a position to only really require a couple of upgrades per season. We need to see the ins/outs come the end of the window to truly know.....

Need more than a couple but having gone down the younger players route last season it means we focus more on the ready made players to improve the first team now, from a position of strength with CL football - hopefully from next season we will be in a place that only requires a couple of players coming in

Also the criticism over the wages will look silly as well

Cleaning the books has allowed us more wiggle room to get better players on those wages.

Yes...this is what I've been hoping. That VV meant a meaningful difference in how we did things. It's not just the money, it's that we are moving aggressive and early for our top targets. We are confident in our position in the market and know we can compete. This is what it takes and I'm glad we are doing it.

There may be some restructuring left to do but unless there's some actual big time investment coming in then any restructure is not going change anything dramatically in terms of what budgets are available. Two or three 50-60m signings doesn't signal a change in approach imv - not when you actually look at our transfer spend over the last few seasons. This is just what we've been building towards.
...what would have been telling (interesting )is our behaviour if we HADN'T won the EL and hence the CL money.
