Most of my grandons team wear these micro pads and have holes in back of their socks, far cry from the leather pads with wooden rods in them I wore and no one wore their shirts outside their shorts.
The sock holes are because the socks are deemed too tight (or so I was told by a younger chap)
Sole players wear low socks and have the club socks in the top like sleeves …

Ive just taken your recommendation and bought some. If im not at least 50% quicker on the turn in tomorrow's match, i'll forward you the bill!
Thought you had your ear to the ground, how have these slipped you by! Now you've got to cut the feet off your kit socks though.

It's the injury prevention sports engineers I mainly know (stud design, snow board wrist guards etc.), so this wont be something of theirs.

I bought the long sock versions as the colour match should be ok with my club issued ones, which obviously televised levels can't get away with.

Yeah grip socks are awesome
I thought they were just the "new fad", but wow they make a huuuuge difference
Ok, im sold. I found they genuinely made a difference. I was up against the most agile, quick accelerating opponent ive faced in years, and i stuck close to him way more than i would have expected to. Only a sample of one game so far, but i'll keep going with them.

Along with foam rollers (which i swear by), its the first thing like this i can see isnt just marketing flimflam, there's properly something to them.

Thanks

What foam rollers do you use? We have a flat one but I know some use the ones with nobbly bits on.

Didnt need fancy kit back in the dark ages we use to slow our opponents down.

I dont think the type of foam roller matters. You can even use a rolling pin if you really want. Its just something to cause the chemical release that loosens the muscles

No worries.
I was as skeptical and as happily surprised as you. Mine are for netball instead of football - makes such a difference to not have the sock sliding around in the footwear.

What's your personal take on Theraguns and Hyperice? I have a Hyperice (and mini-Theragun which I take when I travel) and I use before sessions and playing as well as after They have been excellent for me, but I hear there's some thoughts that they are more psychological (the same argument I hear posed about cold plunges, which again I swear by).

It's all the same. It's anything that stirs up your natural anti-inflammatory proteins in the regions you are pressuring (that's the real science behind them). The cheap vs expensive kit makes no difference.

Icebaths are 100% placebo though. No evidence at all they have any positive effect.

They do shrivel the old chap mightily tho. That's scientific fact.

I go to cryobright in hove for cryotherapy most weeks. It's amazing how much more alert I am, can feel the blood rushing around my body.

Another interesting one is 'electrolytes'. They dont actually exist. Its just salt and sugar, in doses way higher than do you any good (and can actually begin to do harm). The optimum dose (if having strenously exercised for more than 70 mins) is actually just a bottle of good old classic Lucazade.
