Zeki Fryers

I do, I'm not a big fan of BAE at all, so am well pleased with this. I prefer JV to BAE for most games at LB, and will probably prefer Fryers too. I'm worried about BAE coming back and fudging up the high line we're working on. Still LOL and all that.

No. Just no.

JV is fine at left back. Not brilliant. Fine.

But playing him at left back weakens us at centre back.

And, more to the point, JV doesn't want to play left back unless he absolutely has to.

so people in their global knowledge of players would actually already rate a young left back unproven in the premiership over BAE

if ever i needed proof that some people dont have a scooby, it was that

Spot on... in this case not even a scrappy! Thankfully most of the board are better..

The only valid part of this post... I think that BAE and Kaboul have not played enough games under AVB to be rushed straight back into the side. We've seen the team improve their use of the offside trap as the season has gone on, and while this was in conjunction with the players higher up the pitch beginning to press more as a cohesive unit, each individual defender has had some adapting to do. Unless injuries or a devastating drop in form dictate so, we shouldn't drop players who have been performing effectively and have adapted to our current style of football. Instead Benny and Kaboul should IMO be given time to get fully fit and introduced into the team in a similar way to how Lloris was at the beginning of the year, with starts in the cups and against weaker teams (preferably with no threat of pace) and substitute appearences until they are up to speed.

Although I agree with nothing else in your post, especially comments about BAE's ability (where do I even begin?), I do agree his return could fvck up the high line we've been working on, but only if it is premature.

Fryers is also very capable at centre back. He's quick and strong and I think he's a good signing.
What do you think Standard Liege got out of the deal?

There are plenty of Fryers in Belgium - they invented chips - one less won't make any difference.

Younger, less experienced and less rated than our two other aspiring full backs - Danny Rose and Adam Smith
Don't write off those we already got, and don't put too much pressure on the new signing who's one for our U21 team this season.

It means we wont be looking for a top quality left back in the summer. A lot of people think neither Benny, Rose or Naughton are up to the required standard.

If we had spent lots of money then sure. I for one wouldn't rule anything out.

Surely we will still need to pay a development fee to United. They can't allow a six month parking abroad get round the rules.

No.. I assume that's exactly whats happened, otherwise we'd just have bought the kid direct from United.

Possibly. Getting him direct from United meant we had to agree with them. I'm thinking it will still go to tribunal and a lesser compensation will be determined.

If we can get round the rules this easily, then the system has a big flaw. While its good to get one over on United - we owe them for underhand behaviour - this means that clubs that develop players can get screwed over. It wouldn't be fair if the deal involved Southampton or Crystal Palace.

It certainly does seem to be something of a loophole.

But I don't think that Spurs could be forced to pay compensation retrospectively. As with loopholes in all other spheres, it will probably be closed eventually, but those who take advantage of it while they can are doing nothing wrong.

Ultimately, Utd only have themselves to blame. They were too greedy. Demanding £6 million for Fryers was taking the tinkle.

noooooooooooooo.

How would you propose we deal with our whole LB situation? Keep Benny and try and keep Rose as an understudy? Or push Rose into the first XI and sell Benny? Fryers, Naughton remain squad options, or perhaps Naughton first choice RB?

It's a hard one isn't it?

I mean i love Benny and rate him as a very good left back...i also have great faith that Rose is going to be a very good left back so no way do i want him sold. Naughton i also rate highly so he definitely stays. Hmmm i think i would go with Benny and Rose competing for the lb sabot next season and Naughton and Walker for the rb spot. Fryers can go out on loan.

If Rose has improved to the extent that he really is becoming a really good left back, then I think we could try him as first choice. He may be more suited to what AVB will ultimately be aiming for, with full backs providing width as opposed to Benny whose strength is more releasing Bale. Rose is performing well in a Premiership team and I don't think it's easy for a young full back to stand out as much as he has been doing - he must be playing really well for that to be so.
