Ha :D
I worked with someone whose nickname was O'Niens and they didn't think it was pronounced onions.

I don't mind YAK, I mind the penmanship. Do these kids not do calligraphy in their spare time any more?

When I went to secondary school we covered our books in brown paper and I did the subject titles in Old English font.

Ah, log books, slide rules, pounds, shillings & pence, jumpers for goalposts. Isn't it, hmmm?

Every morning at my junior school, the class had to recite their times tables. I am not a big fan of rote learning, but knowing mental arithmetic has made me popular when it comes to splitting the bill.

I saw an internet meme recently where a branch of Greggs had a notice saying its till was out of order, so they would not be taking cash payments, because nobody working behind the counter could do simple arithmetic (i.e. give change).

[Bugger me, I'm going off on one now].

At the pub one night, I saw darts players using an app to do the scoring. Learning mental arithmetic is the sole redeeming feature of playing darts, in my opinion :)
