Spain starting well
We were fine until about 5 minutes after we scored. Then he made a sub and compounded our issue…., then he made 2 more and buried us!We scored in the 55th minute, our first sub wasn't until the 72nd minute - we was already dropping deeper and deeper and coughing up chances by then....
Huh?Old sex party
Wasn't that the story about the ref?Huh?
MessiHow is that not a fk for Porro?
I think Romero gave Porro the old faux (teammate) earful there after that non foulHow is that not a fk for Porro?
I think he is a gas-lighter, yes. IF this was a systemic issue, IF it was the same as previous tournaments (I don't agree with that BTW), then he had 2 years to prepare for such a potential moment.
Why is it so hard to accept what you saw? Or are you seeking balance for the ideal concept of balance?
Not exactly a shock. Trump has no idea about anything.Trump has no idea what that is.
The Fox commentator just said it’s early in the game so he’s happy with it not being a booking.15 cynical fouls before Argentina will get booked
Mate, I think you’re pretty bang-on the money but the people not willing or able to properly engage or accept some of this thesis includes members of this forum.I accept what I saw perfectly, I’m just saying that I think the way the narrative has cemented in the national psyche is extreme, in one direction, and not sufficiently taking into account the range of factors that influenced what we saw.
I think frankly the country on the whole has had an emotional reaction to what happened. Because we were so close, because so many believed this could be our year, because we might not get close again for a while, and because Tuchel was supposed to be something Southgate wasn’t. There always needs to be someone to blame to explain an England exit. All the while it’s the hardest competition on earth to win, and the other teams don’t care one jot what was ‘supposed’ to happen for England.
I listen to Emma Hayes today on the Rest is Football, and I find myself agreeing a lot with her. She’s actually been an international coach and I feel like she gets it. She could see that the coaches were trying to get our team forward in the game, and I think she correctly calls out that it was the lack of a mental framework in the team that meant they failed to execute. This is very similar to the quite good analysis that Andros Townsend offered. The players were dropping,
This is not to say that different decisions or different subs couldn’t have been made. But I think the mental strength of the players has been a severely under discussed element of the failing here. We know that they dropped in spite of instructions in the Croatia game, and Tuchel had to get into them. But I just don’t think the national conversation is ready to discuss this element. No one wants to criticize the players, because they clearly put so much effort in, and built such a connection with the population, but this isn’t a point about effort, it’s a point about the mental fortitude to play your game in spite of huge pressure. And I don’t think our players did. And to be honest I’m surprised that’s such a controversial thing to say.
It's as much about who you don't bring on.
Saka was apparently fit.
Rashford was fit.
He had Reece James in midfield for 10 mins in order to accommodate an extra defender. He had a midfielder on the bench who profiled for what we needed.
Are you seriously trying to suggest that Tuchel was powerless and that this was a player/driven system collapse?
BTW, the guy cannot accept responsibility. It is a range of other faults, including English DNA. As the leader/manager/coach/mixologist of all we've looked to do for 2 years, does this mean his German DNA has been compromised?
He had two systems; speed and power in attack, wall in defense when pressure was on. That's it.
Without Bellingham and Kane we'd have been out in the group stages...
