I think the point @Lilbaz and others are making, is you can't possibly know how a young player will develop. There are so many variables. Everything is on the table still. And who knows what will occur. Butterfly effect - maybe there is one conversation with a coach which changes them. Maybe they grow physically. Etc etc etc.

These players are only playing for us because they have huge committment and clear ability. How they'll kick on or whether they do is unknown. The coaches and families will support them, but we don't know the future.

Odobert shows great intent. He's willing. And as a manager, that is a big plus. Will he develop to be more clinical in attack? That is the key question. Players like Kane show that you never know who'll turn that corner and become a world beater.

Ha, you'll think I'm trolling you (I'm not, honestly) but I have to push back on this.

Of course no-one can accurately say 100% how a young player will develop. But there are personality traits which can help suggest certain things will happen. Kane is a fine example in the sense that no-one saw him becoming what he did, however his sheer attitude and workrate suggested he had an enormous determination to succeed.

The thing I currently see with Odobert is that he has some good skills and some great moves. He is a system player for me more than a talent who will look to take the game on his shoulders. I think the system he works better in is one where he is not played as a left-winger in a 4-3-3 unless our midfield trio contains two progressive 8s and we alter our style to play more through the lines. He can only be more clinical if we play to his strenghts. Otherwise he is simply a decent fit in a current system.

Fair play, this was the first time in forever I have seen him consistently not just look to take the man on but also the green space behind that man. Helped enormously by Udogie being there. We could also see today where he is probably more effective in the half-space/channel and being able to cut inside. I still maintain that if we went 4-2-3-1 or even 3-5-2, we'd be able to deploy him and Xavi in a way that would get them closer to the ball and each other, which would allow much more creativity in central areas.

Doesn't need to be either of those formations. Play Palhinha as holding with Xavi and Bergvall as 10's/8s. Xavi the left attacking midfielder, Bergvall right, with Odobert and Kudus on the wings. Would give us a lot more creativity.

I can certainly see that.
I think the lingering issue is that Joao is not the greatest passer when advancing, however in our current system I could certainly live comfortably enough with your suggestion.

Drifting into 'I wish' land, I'd love to see what a team like this would do.

Any number of rotations possible with Sarr, Bergvall, Tel, and Odobert available (I am not counting injured players right now)...Pahlinha sits in, and if necessary can drop in to make a 4...Muani as the drifting link between the likes of Xavi and Kudus...I think it'd be fun to try (of course we will never see it)!
