Willian

On Newsnow there's a story that states he was in England earlier this week and has since started following Lucas and Coutinho on Twitter. Might mean nothing but certainly suggests a recent link of some sort to Liverpool.

Willian will decide by tomorrow whether to move to Tottenham Hotspur after they hijacked his proposed move to Liverpool last night.
Tottenham could break their transfer record for the third time this summer after offering about £27 million for the Brazil attacking player.
Liverpool have made a similar bid and Willian, who is expected to arrive in this country today, has asked for time to consider the offers. His arrival at White Hart Lane would take the club’s spending to nearly £90 million, money that they are expected to recoup from the sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid. They broke their record to sign Paulinho for £17 million, then brought in Roberto Soldado for £26 million.
Tottenham have had a longstanding interest in Willian but privately were admitting defeat to Liverpool on Friday. Things gathered pace yesterday. André Villas-Boas, the Tottenham head coach, tried to sign Willian for Tottenham last summer, and also when he was in charge of Chelsea two years ago.
The attacking player, 24, has since moved from Shakhtar Donetsk for about £30 million to Anzhi Makhachkala, who put a number of their players up for sale last week. “Willian is an extremely talented player,” Villas-Boas has said.
Liverpool have been cautiously optimistic about the possibility of signing Willian since their interest in the winger was first revealed last week, but the club are aware that a player of such repute could attract interest from rivals who are able to offer him European football.
That weakness and the financial realities that they continue to face have made the summer transfer window increasingly difficult for Liverpool, as Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, acknowledged at the weekend. “We are having to sell players to gain money to get players in and we are trying to balance all of that while trying to progress,” Rodgers said.
Having missed out already on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Diego Costa, Liverpool are aware that allowing a third leading target to slip through their fingers would not help the perception that they are struggling to attract big names. Despite that, they have pursued Willian vigorously and there is no suggestion from Liverpool that they are ready to walk away from a battle with the North London club.
Tottenham are also hopeful of signing Alen Halilovic after agreeing a deal for the Dynamo Zagreb attacking midfielder, who has been dubbed the next Luka Modric. Halilovic’s father wants the 17-year-old to stay in Croatia for another season. His arrival could signal the sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson, who moved to Tottenham from Swansea City last summer.
Tottenham are also expected to buy Fábio Coentrão from Madrid and try to sell Benoît Assou-Ekotto, also a left back.

We really really really need Willian or Lamela

Agree with this. Wee need some guile and that X factor in our side for when teams park the bus. Not one of our starting XI today can beat a man with skill. Its all pace. Lamela or Willian would be sorted.

Chadli looks promising but I get your point.

Was hoping Willian update would keep for Telegraph newspaper tomorrow but it does appear #THFC are hoping to hijack #LFC deal

You'd hope he would prefer us and AVB may help with this as well if he really does sext him. Plus we also have Paulinho and Sandro and Paulinho said that AVB is highly rated in Brazil too.

I still remember the comments from Berba saying how we really wanted him and tried for ages and that helped us signing him, hopefully our efforts from last summer and AVB's from the last 2 years will help with this.

He's started following Sandro and Paulinho on Twitter.. Apparently this means he is 100% nailed on to come.

Tottenham Hotspur prepare to hijack Liverpool's bid for Willian from Anzhi Makhachkala

Tottenham Hotspur are to make a dramatic late bid to hijack Liverpool’s attempts to sign the Brazilian attacking midfielder Willian for £30 million.

Tottenham have long been interested in acquiring Willian, with chairman Daniel Levy having travelled to Ukraine in January to negotiate a deal with Shakhtar Donetsk before the move collapsed. Instead Willian moved to the Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

Willian has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League and Spurs head coach Andre Villas-Boas also tried to sign the 25-year-old when he was the manager of Chelsea.

Anzhi have put their entire first-team squad up for sale with owner Suleyman Kerimov deciding he does not want to bankroll the club’s big spending any more.

Willian is Anzhi’s most valuable asset and Liverpool have been in advanced talks to bring him to Anfield. It had been hoped that a deal would be announced later this week.

While Liverpool would still appear to be favourites to sign Willian, Spurs have now made their move and the attraction of playing for Villas-Boas and also living in London could sway the player’s thinking.

Willian has been in England recently hoping to decide his future having resolved to push for a move away from Anzhi.

Spurs remain in the market to sign another attacking player despite having already acquired striker Roberto Soldado for a fee that could rise to £26 million and the Belgian international winger Nacer Chadli.

The club sense an opportunity not to just push themselves into the Champions League places but also to challenge for honours. Signing Willian would mean that Spurs break their transfer record three times in one summer having also bought another Brazilian, Paulinho, for a fee that could rise to £17 million.

The scale of the deal to sign Willian, who can also play as a wide attacking player or behind the main striker, would raise further suggestions that Spurs are spending ahead of the anticipated sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for a world record fee. Bale was not at Selhurst Park yesterday to see Spurs beat Crystal Palace 1-0.

Acquiring Willian would also hurt Liverpool who, like Spurs, started their league campaign with a victory and are also hoping for a top-four finish. Manchester United have also inquired about Willian but he is not high on their list of targets as they still try to pursue a deal to acquire Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and also bid for Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.

So glad we appear to be going on for Willian. Letting an AVB fave join Liverpool would have been terrible business.

Not sure why Liverpool feel so confident in the deal? Why would that be? Now that we are going for it I hope we nail it down.

A lot of money but I hope wears successful here. No way we will keep Bale should this go through. Would we??

I reckon a deal was struck for Bale agesago but fr next year, Bale was asked to keep quiet, we do our business, he stays, we win the title, then he joins Madrid. Brilliant partnership agreement
