What’s everyone reading?

Billy Connolly, Tall tales and wee stories.

Exactly what you’d expect, brilliant fun, one of the greats.

I've lost count of how many times I've read that book.

It constantly amazes me how descriptions can be so full and vivid but with an efficiency with words that separates her from so many of her contemporaries.

It's probably the most complete work of fiction I have ever read. To think she wrote this as an eighteen year old girl is amazing in itself.

I am a huge fan of Magnus Mills...his first three in particular are superb. If I had to name one? All Quiet On The Orient Express.

It promised a Capote-esque narrative on the murders of three young women in Argentina in the 80s but never really lived up to the hype.

Interesting enough and thought provoking in turns, but it’s a very tall order compared against In Cold Blood.

I found it very annoying. Loads of ridiculous situations that would never happen. Particularly
how some old bifters dug a 6 foot grave and then filled a 6 foot grave and then dug a 6 foot grave and then filled a 6 foot grave.
Just nonsense.

I don’t like him. He really is a creepy bloke, he’s got his hands in the pockets of the nations geriatrics. He had cornered Daytime tv quizzes and now has this decrep-lit sideline.
You wouldn’t trust him with grandma would you.

My daughter bought this for me on my birthday, been supporting our great team for 60 years but i must admit i had never really heard of him before.

This is great. Really well written: engaging, credible and sometimes funny narration, fascinating stories.

I’ve read a fair bit of pre-war / rise of fascism stuff but not much post-war / recent history, so I’m really enjoying this.

Looks good, I spent a fair bit of time in Leipzig in my teens, so not long after the wall came down, the Stasi museum was fascinating and terrifying, this is going on the reading list.

I really enjoyed Stasiland too, mad to think how recent it all was.

Currently reading The Girl Who Lived Twice, final book of the Millenium series. Not as interesting or enjoyable as the prior books and i think i bought it on offer, but an easy enough read.

Recently read books i would recommend would be Empire of Pain, about the Sackler family and how they became so wealthy through Oxycontin on Purdue Pharma and Billion Dollar Whale, about the 1MDB scandal in Malaysia. Found both of these in charity shops for a couple of quid, which i find i great place to buy books that you wouldn't normally go for

Just got two Stephen Fry books about the Roman Empire curtesy of the Post Code Lottery, will give them a nose later
