“Protagonist” doesn’t convey the same sense of “a key player” as the Italian “protagonista”. It’s a false friend. Avoid it. If you want a competent writer of English to check your public pronouncements before they go out, though, you’ll likely have to look outside of the club. From what I understand, you can afford that now.
