What was your favourite year for music?

...the impossible question...

'75-'81 - aside from Bowie, Floyd, there was The Stranglers, Ian Dury and early Police to name a few...always enjoyed John Cooper Clarke too...

'89-98...aside from the brilliant Nirvana and the like, you had Massive Attack, Underworld (mk II) and Goldie emerging with Timeless In '95, which was a game changer. LTJ Bukem had got close, but Timeless was such a brilliant fusion...

'75-'81 was a bit before my time ;) but yeah for a period in time, late 80s to mid 90s was absolutely mind-blowing.

Will have to listen to Joan Osborne tomorrow. An amazing vocal performance throughout. My right hand man is just incredible - intro taken from captain beefheart to boot.

Fudge off whippersnapper!!!!:D:D:D:D

p.s. one hell of a list mate

I can't do one year, just like I couldn't do one band or one style of music. I can remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard these albums or artists.

1959. Miles Davis releases Kinda Blue and jazz is never the same.

Not that I, freshly hatched, was old enough to know what music was. Took me 17 years to catch on and haven't let go. First heard it sitting on a dock on the lake where my cottage is, wafting out of a neighbour's stereo as we sipped beers and looked up at the Milky Way on a warm July night. Greatest jazz album ever.

1977 was pretty awesome as Steely Dan gave us the immortal Aja album. Just flawless. Sprawled on my parents living room broadloom with headphones on and my dad thinking I was some kind of stoner for giving myself over to this magnificence.

But this past year has been pretty good, too. Cory Wong and The Wongnotes are downtown and happenin' with the Striped Album. Got tickets for their January show in Toronto.

Then there's The Bros - Ewan and Shamus Currie and their talented friends - cranking out cool tunes for a sweltering summer(well, here anyway):

And the amazingly talented guitarist/singer Afie Jurvanen - under his stage name, Bahamas - just continues to delight with wonderfully introspective music.
