Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Of course it doesn't. Very few teams have sucess or win trophies in several competitions the same year. This was a mid season assessement, not without risks, to put all eggs in the Europa League basket. Had we been in the top three in the PL, priorities would've been different.

Do you honestly believe that putting all our eggs in 1 basket justifies 21 league defeats?

Nothing can justify it, but it happens. West Ham spent a fortune, they are 15th. United sacked a manager spent a fortune they are 16th.

I want to hear from our successful manager how he would improve, not just bin him off for failure because carl said so. He hasn't failed. Champions League football and a major trophy = success

fudge me carl are you an arsenal fan you sound miserable? When we lifted the trophy did you walk out in a huff?

This season has confirmed we are European trophy holders.

You seem pretty unhappy Carl, do you know we just won our first trophy in nearly two decades?

Sack him is an option, I am saying I want to hear his strategy to compete on more than one front.

OK this is ancient history but we went down under Burkenshaw, he brought us back up and we had some of the best success the club has had. We may be on the cusp of more, I would want to hear from him how he can adapt.
But yes I don't want another season like this

I'm over the moon we've won our first trophy in ages but I'm tinkled off that he gets a free pass at 21 league defeats. Finishing 12th and seeing progress in our playing style/direction I'd be happy with. If we have to sacrifice the league in order to gamble on a cup then for me he isn't the right manager for us

We’ve just broken a 17 year trophy drought. Today isn’t the day for this discussion.

I’m so fudging conflicted on Ange right now but I feel an elation that I haven’t felt in decades.

The league form was unacceptable. The Europa was unexpected. Just enjoy it.

To go full Nigel Pearson on you I guess I'm not an ostrich. The signs were there last season that we wasn't up to it (he has lost more league games than he was won).

You know you can be happy and but also realistic at the same time right? I'm over the moon, doesn't mean I can't have a different opinion to you.

We won't get another season like this. We'll be in the cl. Facing much better teams. If something doesn't change it is going to be incredibly painful.

Realistically, Ange has been successful. We have Champions League Football and a major trophy, the 3rd biggest a club can win.
You are being an ostrich if your position is "doesn't matter sack him 21 defeats that's all that matters".

I am saying I want to hear his strategy to kick on and improve. Can he achieve top 8 and be competitive in the champions league, how, what does he need to do it? If he says "it's what we are mate" then sack him! but if he has a plan like he did for the UEL, I would be willing to give him the Super Cup and see how he starts the season.

Argue with me and disagree. What is wrong with hearing him out?

Just want to make it known that Ron isn't my burner account!! 😆

Haha Mate I was arguing with you I want him sacked a few days ago! That was me!

I am just not willing to throw away a successful coach without hearing how he can kick on.

Is it possible Ange can have us top 8 and get to the knock outs in the UCL, and win a cup next season? If so, how can he do it and what does he need?

We could win the Super Cup in August as well, I wouldn't put it past him.

I wouldn't be prepared to take the risk on hearing him out. I've seen enough in the last 2 seasons to make my mind up. We've gone backwards

Says it all that you wanted him sacked a few days ago but now you're adamant he has to stay. And you say you're not an ostrich?

That isn't reading my posts. Where did I say I am adamant?

Like I said to Tommy a few days ago, I want to hear his strategy and planning then make a decision. I am not adamant he stays at all.

The ostrich is the one who puts their fingers in their ears and closes their mind to the idea that he can adapt (like he has done in the finals).
I am 51% Ange in depending on the future board meetings with Paratici and Ange, or 100% Ange out if he stays stubborn and can't change it up in the league

I am done with this conversation some people want to stay miserable. Enjoy it Carl that would be my suggestion.

See this is the problem with snow flakes like you. You come on here saying you want him to stay, someone disagrees with you and that makes them miserable?

I've taken the last 2 days off of work, I'm going to the parade and will be at the last game of the season. I'm over the moon, my son, daughter nieces and nephews are over the moon. Doesn't mean I can't have an opinion different to yours (which changes like the wind by the looks of it)

What do you think putting all eggs in the basket entailed?
My main point was that this was a pragmatic decision made more than halfway through the season, when our chances of league success were less than slim, and the squad was still recovering from a massive injury crisis. We were likely still in the League cup semi and in the FA Cup at the time of this decision. It was a sensible priority, IMO.

Yet Arsenal played for the title and 2 semi finals with their injuries. In no way does that justify us finishing 17th, no way.
We won the Europa league and reached the LC semi final with the most injury plagued season I can remember. Arsenals injuries were nothing compared to ours. Don't forget they have also been the superior team to us for a few seasons now - they're in a much better position to compete on several fronts.

Do you honestly believe that putting all our eggs in 1 basket justifies 21 league defeats?
Yes, when the outcome is a European trophy and CL qualification - and of course we didn't get relegated - without a doubt. As I've said, it was a bold and risky decision, but it paid off and no one will remember the 21 league defeats from this season. It's all about the trophy.

I get that, and I understand focussing on the one with the best chance. But how do you think this was done, outside of letting players rest and rotating the team. My main confusion is around our performances, structured in Europe and all over the place in the league. I don't understand how concentrating on Europe equals playing with pragmatism, but cause we're not gonna win the league we set up tactically worse. I'm genuinely confused.

Cause the follow on from that is what? We were losing games on purpose? Why couldn't we set up to defend in the league games. I see no reason we couldn't have been better setup and why would that risk us concentrating on the cup?

I couldn't care less what's remembered. If his level is flirting with relegation in order to gamble on winning a cup then 1 season is enough for me.
