Update

@dawaxman Your wife is obviously a woman of great strength but this must be a huge worry for you all (as well as being a laughable sentence in the first place). Hope you all stay safe and that the powers that be see sense around sentencing and victim protection. If they do it will be in no small part due to the work and determination of your wife.

One of those things, where you probably never wanted to be shoved into the public eye, but had little choice as things played out. Hopefully there is a public benifit and advancments as a result of your bravary. Would have been easier to take things into your own hands, but fighting injustice with injustice is a more cowedly approach. Far harder to do things the right way. Hope it hasn't been too much of a burden on family life.

Just seen the article as well, hope things are OK. Shocking how lenient some of the sentences are and the harm they cause people.

I was reading about the Four Aces club in Dalston and the guy who setup Labyrinth - Jo Wieczorek. I’ll find the link he was a Spurs fun who discovered Acid House parties and pills.

He was running various underground parties around London. At the time there was moral outrage to these events and the police setup an Acid-Squad. A team dedicated to stopping these parties. Jo Wieczorek was told to get in the car and have a chat with the head of this police acid squad. Who essentially told him to he’d be in trouble if he continued. So he went legit and ran the club in a licensed venue.

It is a shame police can’t go and have a word with criminals who are clearly law breaking, but they don’t have the evidence or time to prosecute. To think that these sexual predators get away Scot free with no repercussions.

I bet that guys parties led to plenty of abuse of vulnerable people. Doesn’t make sense to me to hero worship him and then to throw shade at the Police for not doing enough elsewhere.

I was just making the point that the police used to be able to act with some discretion. They took Joe to the police station and told him to not “abuse vulnerable people”. So he heeded their warnings and went legit.

Some sad sicko who phones up random phone numbers, probably doesn’t deserve to go to prison. And the police’s time better spent seeking convictions for others. But why not send round Policeman to have a word and let them know that their actions are under surveillance and they need to stop.

Who’s doing the hero worshiping?

" I found out he’d actually been convicted in 2015 for making 15,000 calls to random numbers"

Well he clearly didn't learn his lesson back in 2015.

That "sicko" phoning up countless random numbers, who also found a journos number and used her name whilst masturbating on the phone who got rid of evidence when questioned, deserves a verbal warning?

What's the threshold for actually getting arrested for you then?

I'd say that anyone as far gone to derive pleasure from that kind of activity should be institutionalised in one way or another, as the article suggests, if you're doing that it's likely you'll commit offences more severe (as if threatening sexual violence down the phone isn't severe enough...). It seems pretty easy to suggest the police should spend time elsewhere if you have never been the victim of that kind of behaviour.

Some fudged up people out there, downplaying it or joking about it doesn't help - Gotta wonder how much of this kind of thing is due to excessive porn consumption and generally the impact of phones / tech giving troubled individuals power through anonymity.

Maybe you actually don't take any of this stuff likely and are doing your devil's advocate routine for no fudging reason whatsoever, if that's the case, consider not doing it.

Trolling again eh. My point was simple, instead of the police doing nothing, we could do with them being pragmatic and letting offenders know they are watching and aware, even if they don't (or can't) prosecute. Too many committing crimes have no come back at all. Debating someone's depravity is missing the point.

As for not taking it lighting, idk what the fuk your on about. Trolling looking for a rise. Maybe the question should be: are you that bored that you're trying to start an argument where there isn't one? 😅

Missing the point and taking it lightly is asking about the phone bill when discussing someone making obscene phone calls. As you well know.

The police made the person aware they were being looked into and they got rid of the phone and carried on so hiw is your suggestion a solution? It's honestly like you didn't read the article.

I'm not sure what you mean by too many committing crimes have no comeback sorry. I'm not after a rise, there were a few questions which entailed that I was looking for answers, if you just want to play dumb instead that is your prerogative - Much like you picking far out perspectives that you don't even agree with amd running with them just to antagonise people, some would call it oohh I don't know, trolling?

I rue the day no one can make a joke anymore.

There is no community informal pressure on offenders. Phone thiefs feel above the law. Those committing offenses that can't be convicted don't receive any notification...or guidance. The original point was about Joe who ran illegal parties. Someone took the time to have a word. A very human thing to do. We don't do that anymore.

All good.

Phone snatchers. How limp are our police force against them? How slow are they to put in place effective deterrents? The kids perpetrating these thefts know they are more or less free to steal. It has taken 5-10 years for the police to act in a positive way. Even now they are not doing much. There is very little to no pro-active policing.

I agree on the police being rather limp in terms of what they do. It's tricky as even with the limited power they have, there's still huge numbers of incidents with serving police abusing that power, I absolutely don't have the solution on that.

Not to labour the point but you're still suggesting the police should go and have a word like that's different to what actually happened. I personally believe someone making the kind of calls in the original article is beyond deserving a chat with the police, it might have helped in the situation you describe and that's fair enough, but doesn't stop creeps being creeps. It's not pleasant to talk about the depravity side of it though, it's worse to have to put up with that kind of behaviour. It was a genuine question in terms of threshold of arrests, if what was described in the article isn't worthy of time in some kind of facility, what is (in your opinion as I believe your initial comment was opinion based not a matter of fact regarding the law but I could be mistaken).

As for not being able to joke about anything, it's just the context, maybe I am overly sensitive on it but it seems like a subject to take seriously, if that makes me the fun police so be it.

Edit - As for Jimmy Carr, another cancelled comedian "saying the unsayable", repeatedly, on yet another Netflix special available worldwide. Meh!
