Transfer Window Thread

Lookman looked the better of the two on yesterday's showing. Brooks in 2nd half (when I was paying attention) turned over possession repeatedly, but was trying the right things at least . Yes, something to work with but 40m still seems a little steep.

£40m is average money these days, shocking as it is at this point we kind of have to accept it.

You're in for a bumpy ride then!

Its fudging ridiculous, and I really dont disagree with you, but we are at a stage where money is virtually meaningless.

It has no measure of value at all.

Hopefully the bubble bursts soon ad things get back to some sort of reality

I'm thinking It will only burst if the appetite reduces from a paying TV audience.

Also nowadays - its wages that contribute to the whole package. We might not mind paying 40m if we can get a player on 40k per week. Where as a 40m fee and 100k per week is an extra 15m commitment.

Usually something unobtrusive, that let's them blend in with the crowd.

Very piratical! Like it!

'ALLAN WILL STAY AT NAPOLI'

Tottenham and PSG will be dismayed to hear that all-round midfielder Allan is staying at Napoli, according to manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Speaking about the transfer rumours, he said: "They have nothing, Allan is our player. We don’t need to discuss anything with the president, because there are no big moves on the horizon.

"I hope the transfer window closes soon so we can all focus on our football. I have never been concerned about losing Allan, because he had a fantastic first half of the season and we hope he’ll do even better for us going forward.”

Honestly? I don't want anyone this window. I don't want our squad cannon-foddered up with panic buys to cover a few weeks. Sonny will be back in three weeks, I feel confident Kane is out for no more than three weeks, Dier will be back in three weeks. We have three weeks to bridge Fulham/Watford/Newcash and the semi-final. Unless we could land one of our proper targets for the summer early, then no panic buys. If you write down who we DO have available and fit, we have more than enough to cover those games. The league remains the most important for me. Chelski? Honestly, if we went there with a 4-5-1 and sat deep/ground out a draw, I'd be delighted!!!!

Plus i dont think anybody we buy will be able to play in the SF either, so best they could do is provide a rest to the others.
Happy for Llorente, Nkoudou, Dembele, Vorm, Janssen all to leave without replacements, no point shifting Nkoudou and ending up with Njie

Surely the delay on the stadium means doing any transfers is a no-no anyway?

Obi wan bissaka, sander bergerac and as unlikely as it would be fonzie menzies from man utd.
Get them now to get up to speed with pochs methods for next season in the new stadium and watch us go.

There are none.

If Eriksen leaves, we will run around like headless chickens trying to find someone to replace him. Otherwise, I doubt we have any 'proper targets for the summer'.

If we did, we would have seen movement on them *now* - to get them bedded in, since the first six months are a write off for Poch signings anyway, given the physical demands.

We haven't. And we won't.

It's our way. I doubt we have targets, or a transfer plan - everything I've seen over the past two-odd years tells me we're reactive, not proactive. We see a bargain that fits with the few pennies we have, we move - otherwise, we just sit on our hands.

We have a plan and we have targets. Of course there are variables which happen in football (will Barca come in for Eriksen for example) but we do have a few long-term youth targets. Special ones. When Poch spoke of being brave, he meant not stuffing up the ranks with mid-level fodder. He meant go big or go home in the sense of signings, and he's right, because Skipp is worth it, Amos would've been (and will be) and KWP can step up as well. The biggest problem has been when we have had targets who nearly came -Isco for example- they see our squad and wonder how they'll become any more of a regular than who we have. Easing Dembele along is very helpful, and ditto Victor will be too. But to say we don't have a transfer plan now is not accurate; the plan firmed up with the realization that Poch no longer wanted a second, third or fourth option, he wants one or none. He also is not a big money guy necessarily; those come with interference/big agents getting in the way, and he is not interested (I concede that as he gets older he might have to alter that tune slightly). It is why the United talk is funny; he is NOT going to be answerable to a PLC and chairman-appointed DOF. Let alone the super-agents in that squad.

The current level of noise in the media about our transfers doesn't really fill me with any confidence that we will buy anyone. Not surprised. But I do believe strongly we need a Dembele replacement. A box to box type. Sissoko has done incredibly well but we really should have a top class player in this position.

Unrelated. Mate, seriously, the two have far less of a relation than people think. Two different budgets.
If only it worked that way.... Every £ extra the club spends on the stadium is either an extra £ they have to borrow and pay interest on or a £ they have to take out of their cash flow. We already had net debt of £360 odd million in June 2018, I would imagine there would still be considerable stadium costs to pay at that point to. We are also likely to have reduced income this season compared to last (significantly reduced attendances at Wembley) unless our new commercial deal with Nike is significantly higher than our previous deal.
